Gypsy' Raises
CurtainThursday
By SARAH WHITSON
Singing, dancing and stripping, the
"Gypsy" cast will raise the curtain and
the roof Thursday night in this musical
by Arthur Laurent.
The cast contains quite a lot of talent.
Besides being versed in the art of exotic
dancing, most of the performers had to
show a talent for singing to get on.
The musical includes songs and a score
by Julie Styne and Stephen Sondheim,
"Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Let
Me Entertain You." and "Together
Wherever We Go," will be aung.
A troupe of children will perform as
the dancing "Hollywood Blondes" of the
early days in the careers of Gypsy Rose
Lee, her sister June and their indomitable
mother. The children were chosen in
open tryouts held by director James
Aday.
The play was suggested by the mem-
oirs of the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee.
As a part of a publicity campaign, the
APOs ordered special sweatshirts that
say "Yippee Yippee GYPSY."
Pam Purvis has the leading role as
Gypsy Rose Lee. Carol Crumley is Mo-
ther Rose. Haby June will be played by
Cathy Jordan, who wan also the chore-
ographer for most of the numbers in the
show.
The play is being presented in the
Studio Theater beginning at 8:15 p.m.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tickets
can be purchased in the basement of the
Historical Building for $1.
