day 'afternoon for Ennis. After a
ahort visit there he will proceed to his

Prof. J. W. Pender of this city had
just returned yesterday rrom Deport

j. O Sisson pastor of the First Baptist

ing ten days. They report quite a suc-
cessful meeting as the Jesuit of which
eleven new members were received Into
Pastor Sisson's church and four new
ones into the Deport Methodist church.

ident Taft and who will resign his

ment was this morning assuded as a
compliment to tho retiring member
that the Committee on Public Build-
ings and Grounds will report favorably
ori his bill appropriating sixty thous-
and dollars for the Bite and butldln&
or a government Jbulldlng at Longyiew.
Texas. Tho bill as Introduced by
Russell bas been before the committee
for consideration for some time but it
is understood that the members- are
now ready to report; it to Congress.
The assuranco that the report will be
favorable comes from authentic sour-

noon reported favorably upon the nom-
ination of Gordon Russell or Texas to
be United States Judge foi;the Eastern
District of Texas to succeed the late
Judge D. 13 Bryant of Sherman. The
nomination of D. B. Lyon brother of
CoU" Cecil A. TLyon Republican chair-
man in Texas was also confirmed by
tho committee. Russell will resign his
scat In the Sonate and take up his now
duties at once.

point in the vicinity of tho Rock Island
depot near Krqbs Pittsburg county
Sunday evening two white girls aged
fifteen and sixteen were suddenly set
vpon by a negro avIio struck both to'
the ground with tho butt of a rovolver
Tho elder girl jumped to her feet and
ran8creaming for assistance where-
upon the negro pocketed his rovolver
and fled.
An alarm was turned in and a posse
of armed white men with dogs took
the trail which ended near Jho homo
of a negro namod Batson eaBt of Mc-
Alester Batson surrendered to sher-
iff Hnrrlson at midnight for fear of
mob violence. The sheriff took his
prisoner to Krebs where shortly after-
ward he was Identified by both tho
girls as their assailant. The nogro

hopes to raise 975 by next Sunday
