test There are already a number of
avowed candidates and a much larger
number of ladles are saving votea and
"looking over the field" like regular
candidates for office.
Thla trip Is well worth all the effort
that will be required to win It and
before the contest Is much older there
will be a large number of active can-
didates In the field. This contest Is
on a high plane and It appeals much
more strongly to the people than an
ordinary contest and wise prophets
are forecasting a warm race between
the fair candidates. Everyone In
town Is becoming Interested and sev-

rounding towns are either openly or
quietly lining up their friends.

Is an open speculation as yet. All of

amendedeounty officers' fee bill
which became operative yesterday in
this State county officers hereafter
are to operate on a straight salary
basis. In many Instances It Is aald
the new act will reduce the incomes
of certain county officers and in other
cases merely regulate them. In sev-
eral of the larger counties sheriffs'
compensation will be reduced by
about 50 per cent.
