only possible for a person on top of a
car to pass through this tunnelsafoly
by lying flat down. Tho young men
knew nothing about thlB danger.
Kanady and Duke were Instantly kill
vd each having his head crushed. So
deadly and swift was! the impact that
none of the men fell from the train.
The first known of the aclcdent was
when the train reached Chambers
twonty-flvo miles tast of hero.
There Hurd rolled from the car. It

up tho stream from tho houses which
are located In the lcou river bottom.
A wnll of water twenty foot high swept
down the narrow channel. Three of
the victims were drowned while asleep.

against tho walls of his house crack-
ing them Hko egg shells. Seizing two
of his. children and calling to his
wife to conin to lilm he managed to
gain a footing although the water was
breast high. Ho secured a hold on
floating timbers which crowded about
him but after an Ineffectual struggle
Hie children were Wrenched from his
grasp and borne away senseless. Ter-
ry was knocked unconscious and waB
later found in a half drowned condi-
tion his mind temporarily unbalanced.
The rescuo was effected by J H. Hans-
com who escaped with his family after
their homo hud been s?ept away.

Estimates are that the present sup-
ply without another rain will last the

o'clock tonight shot and killed the
flagman on the renr sleeper locked

ever attempted in this section.
"The robber is known to have boarded
the Burlington fast train immediately

street six blocks from Union Station
about three blocks from police head-
quarters the robber crawled over tin.
