This summer is a good time
to look around your home and
see what you can do to make
the house more liveable. Some-
times you just need to rearrange
the furniture in a room or add
a shelf or some more storage at
very little expense. A little paint
will brighten up a room that
has become monotonous.
National Safety Week comes
in July. Of course, every week
safety should be practiced. The
kitchen is one of the most
dangerous groups in the house.
Instead of putting detergents,
bleaches, and other cleaners
under the sink it would be bet-
ter to place them in shelves
high enough to be out of the
reach of young children.
Sharp knives and other sharp
objects should be kept in hold-
ers rather than in drawers.
Chipped glassware and china
are both dangerous to use and
may be a harbor for disease
germs.
Appliances such as washers
and dish washers should be
grounded or you may get a
shock. If you are in doubt about

Never use combustible clean-
ing products or foam rubber in
your automatic washer or dryer.
Even a small amount of heat
may cause it to ignite.
In the bathroom keep aspirin
and other pain relievers out of
the reach of children. Floor
coverings can be dangerous. See
that they are in repair and
waxed correctly.
While you're dusting the lamp
shades look for frayed cords.
Don't rush madly through your
household chores. It's time for a
break. When you get tired, slow
down. The casualty might be
you.
