DEMONSTJRATIOX I PROMISED UP-
OS PIKST SIGJSS OF THE
PEST IN fcOTTOJt.
On tlic court house lawn and at the
north side of tho building is a queer
looking 'vehicle that is causing visi-
tors to the court house to ask ques-
tions and about the. only satisfaction
that one can get irdm other county
officials is that tlie outfit is Grlffln'8
Boll 'Weevil Pire Wagbh. $hey don't
pretend to know anything nabput it; in
fact they even admit that it is the
first thing of the kind they ever saw
but even to as conscientipus a person
as Clair Bettis they all express abso-
lute confidence in the way it will per-
form for they say that If Jt yraa not
alright Griffin wouldn't have It.
The wagon has two whcjpls that are
set far enough apart to straddle two'
rows of cotton and the driver's seat
is arranged after tho fashion of a gig-
Between the two wheels is suspended
from the axle a large pan in which is
placed a majority of live charcoals and
four fans are geared in such position
as to brush tho weevils frdm two rows
of cotton at a time into the fire where.
Mr. Weevil sees his finish. The outfit
is equipped with shafts and one horse
or mule Is sufficient to pull it over the
field and the fact that each weevil Is
cremated the necessity of having to
stop at intervals and clean out the
furnace is eliminated thus it may be
Been that the work may be carried on
.without Interruption Jis long as the.
driver and horse or fhule might desire
to gather boll weevils.
In order that the ravages tff the
pests may be checked from the very
beginning and every farmer in Brown
p.nnntv nrntected from losses to cotton
"tWs year Mr. Griffin has brought this
fire wagon in a few w.eeks early in
order to be able to get "on the job at
the first signs and all that is neces-
sary to command a demonstration is
for somebody to holler boll weevils.
