Chicago June IL The first con-
test today considered was that of
Kentucky. The two contests among
ficiale guaranteed them our hearty
co-operation in the clean-up mbve-
jeet. Now I appeal to every one.
old or young to join us in the move-
ment. The council has commenced
the weed cutting campaign on tin
streets and I want to ask each and
every one who owns property on
which weeds are growing to see to
it that the weeds are cut at once.
Cut the weeds off your vacant lots
as well as your home place. I do
hope you will not neglect this very
important duty because it will be nec-
essary to 2iave some one come and
personally request you to have the
weeds cut
I would add a word to land agents
who have property of others in their
charge either with or without. houses
on it this means for you to have the
weeds cut I plead with you to heir
ike good women and city officials to
clean up and we will have a city
tjjat we will all be proud oL I want j

of the city of Brownwood and say

We are guaranteed the assistance
of the ladies in this matter. They
will make a canvass of the city oc-
casionally and it behooves everyone
to be careful how you throw your
trash on vacant lots in the back
yards or alleys. The article above
provides that you have no excuse. I
would have it expressed upon each and
every citizen. Don't think I am scold-
ing or that I am dictatorial or at all
commanding. I just want people to
be law abiding. "We are just now
changing from a town to a city and
it is time we are taking off our town
clothes and putting on city clothes.
Nothing will give a city greater pub-
licity than to be clean of filth both;
Inwardly and outwardly. So I say;
again let every one put forth the
very best effort to rid our city of ev-:

Father John Power wno returned
last night from "Camp Power" on
Clear Creek where a dozen of the lo-
cal Boy Scouts are spending a week's
outing reports that the boys are
ideally located and having a good
time despite the fact that some of
them were pretty well fatigued by
the time they reached their destina-
tion yesterday. The party started out
at 7:50 o'clock and walked steadily
for an hour after wtiich they took a
fifteen minutes' rest. At 10:30 they
stopped for lunch and a long rest
which put in them condition to trav-
el farther. Setting orf again they
came very near completing their
Journey by 4:30 but some lagged be-
hind and it was 4:50 when they final-
ly marched into camps. Four of the
number were too tired to walk tho
last mile and gladly availed them-
selves of the opportunity offered by
Mr. Henley to ride. Seven however
spurned all offers to ride and walked
steadily along beside the Scout Mas-
ter to the very end of the journey.
Upon their arrival the camp was
christened "Camp Power" because tho
boys feel that it is good of the "Par-
son" to accompany them. The first
work by the boys was the putting up
of tents then there was a break for
the water. Swimming time is limited
to fifteen minutes and at the expira
tion of that time each and every lad
had to leave the water and spend a
like timo on the banks before they
could return to tho water. Last night
the boys were put to bed at 8:45 and
kept quiet for the night. There was
very little Inclination to spend the
early hours In frolic becauso all ad-
mitted that they were pretty tired.
This morning the youngsters were
put through a primary military drill
and then allowed to go swimming.
Quite a bit of work has been mapped
out for tho youngsters while they are
having their fun and when they re-
turn to tho city they should be eligi-
ble for the tenderfoot class of scouts.
