WISD Approves Settlement
With Birmingham Land Board
The Wylie Independent
School District bca-d Monday
aporoved the final com-
promise settlement statement
negotiated between the
Birmingham Land Board and
WISD attorneys. (A court
order prevents either side
from commenting on exact
negotiations.) The agreement
executed by the school board
will now go the land board for
execution.
Liz Williams of Texas
Commerce Bank reported on
the Birmingham Scholarship
Fund, reporting that the fund
has grown from an initial
investment two years ago of
$1,784,525 to a current figure
of $2,060,170. Approximately
$110,000 is needed per year
to fund scholarships.
The board okayed a service
agreement with Texas School
Services Foundation which
will allow TSSF to administer
and process claims coming
from both providers and
employees who paid medical
bills but have not been
reimbursed as a result of
Educators' Group Health
Trust bankruptcy.
Members passed a reso-
lution casting the district's
votes for membership on the
Central Appraisal District
Board of Directors for Don
Rodenbaugh, a former Allen
ISD school board member.
The board reviewed a report
showing district attendance
pecentages for the Texas-
mandated October accounting
period. During the four-week
period, Wylie High's average
daily attendance was 95.01;
Wylie Middle School's, 97.17;
Hartman's, 97.11; Birming-
ham's, 97.70; and Akin's,
97.53.
The board approved a new
contract with Lone Star Gas
for commercial school rates.
B. J. (Gene) Parrish, district
manager, explained that the
new rate for school districts
will be slightly higher than
last year's, but the likelihood
of closing school because of
gas curtailment will be less,
and this would seem to justify
the increased cost. Additional
cost is expected to run about
$1,000 for the school year.
