dation development training

pated in the special Olympics
Sunday sponsored b> the Jay-
cees of Seguin.
Mar> Walker again was the
Seguin winner. She will go to
the national meeting which she
won before in Michigan.
San Antonio will host the lo-
cal state meeting and Austin
will be the site of the state
meeting.
Receiving honors at the Se-
guin Booster club s All Sports
banquet were Lawrence Sam-
pleton, Herbert Coe and David
Brothers. Sampleton plays
football for the Seguin Mata-
dors and Coe performs well in
basketball for the same team.
Brothers, now a freshman at
Texas A and M, won his hon-
ors for track.
Milton Hardaway, lormer
Matadors grid star, has been
picked by Oklahoma State Uni-
versity as right offensive tac-
kle.
Visiting Mrs. Mabel Allen
was John Santafield of San An-
tonio.
The family of the week at
Wesley Harper United Meth-
odist Sunday was the Clarence
Littles.
The Wesley-Harper youth
will present a spring preview
of fashions April 1 at the Joe
F. Seagert girls gymnasium.
Greater Pilgrim Rest Bap-
tist will have its annual Mens'
day and church anniversary-
April 3. Rev. L.V'. Harvey Of
Greater Second Baptist will be
guest speaker.
Fairbank Court No. 247, Her-
oines of Jericho; Jestine Chap-
ter No. 204, Order of Eastern
Star, and Prince Hall affilia-
tion, Free and Accepted Ma-
sons, will hold their Palm Sun-
day thanksgiving service April
3 at New Hope Baptist.
Rev. Morris Daughter) will
speak April 6 at La Trinidad
United Methodist church. It
will mark the last of three Lent
season services at the local
United Methodist churches.
Rev. T.R, Watklns and Ed-
ward Sheffield were In Corpus
Christi last week on a fishing
trip. They had fun, but little
luck.

Rev. Isaac Robinson Sr. and
Mmes. Melinda Jackson, Annie
Mae Ai-kadie and Edna Walker
drove to Shiloh Baptist church
in Rosenburg Saturday for the
funeral of Willie Walker, broth-
er-in-law of Mrs. Walker.
Rev. C.L. Miller officiated
and Gooden Funeral home ar-
ranged the service. Interment
was in Community cemetery.
Sgt. James Jackson, Robert
Jackson and Mrs. LUlte John-
son, all of Dallas, visited their
mother during the week end.
They also attended Walker's
funeral.
William Arkadle Jr. spent
the week end as a guest of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Arkadie Sr. and visited Beth
Elder Baptist church.
Mrs. Helen C. Herndon has
been dismissed from Huth Me-
morial hospital.
Still hospitalized , however,
are W. Yance and Mmes. Gladys
Hall and Mary Minor.

Obsequies were held March
22 at William Taylor United
Methodist church for Mrs. Al-
Ue Cassell Huff. Mrs. Huff
died March 19 from burns she
received over 65 per cent of
her body.
She suffered the burns on
March 9 when her clothes caught
fire while she burned trash In
her yard.
Rev. J.L Houston, pastor of
William Taylor, and Rev, F.C.
Crawford officiated.
Mrs. Huff's survivors in-
clude her widower, Ennls Huff;
daughter, Mrs. Ruby Rodgers
of San Antonio; step-son,
Marshall Huff, son-in-law, four
grandchildren, seven great -
grandchildren, nieces, neph -
ews, brother (Robert Cosey)
and other relatives.
Hysaw Funeral home arrang-
ed the service with Interment
In the Huff cemetery.
Mrs. Monica Hysaw has been
transferred from Davis Me-
morial to Seton hospital in Aus-
tin.
Jesse Newton Is still In Da-
vis Memorial.
Juanita Dukes underwent sur-
gery Friday In Austin's Brack-
enndge hospital.
Mmes. Jessie Satberry, Wil-
lie B. Satterwhite and Willie M.
Anderson spent the week end In

phries, accompanied him.
While here they visited old
friends.

homecoming at New Greater
Smith Chapel Baptist of which
R.B. Sanders is pastor.
Rev. Lewis and Mmes. Ethel
Ferguson and Leora Henr\ also
attended a meeting at Bethel
AME in San Antonio.
Before leaving town, how-
ever, Rev. Lewis officiated at
the wedding of Miss Gloria W.
Henr\ to Melvin Ra> Thomas at
St. James AME.
The whole Nelson family,
spearheaded by Miss Mary Nel-
son, honored Charles and Felix
Nelson and Bruce Carroll on
their birthday with a barbecue
dinner. Among the guests were
Mr. and Mrs. William Carroll
and Mmes. M.M. Johnson, L.E.
Atkinson, Wilma Hinton and Ed-
ward Wilson.
Mrs. Gussie Mary Rainer is
in a La Grange hospital

Baptist spoke at the Court of
Calanthe's annual day Sunda)
in Schulenburg's Pleasant Union
Baptist church. The Mt. Arie
choir served as guest musi-
cians. Mrs. Elmar Lee Harold
was worthy counselor; Mrs.
Rose Woods, mistress of cere-
mony, and Rev. G.W. Smith,
pastor.
Rev. and Mrs. J.L. Houston
and members of Luling's Wil-
liam Taylor United Methodist
and Rev. and Mrs. Mason John-
son, and members from Hal-
lettsville, Schulenburg and
Brown Chapel attended a work-
shop at First Methodist church
Sunday. Rev. Jerry Walker was
host.
Rev. C. V. Eve rage, escorted
by Moses W alton and Mack lien-
drick, attended morning serv-
ice Sunday and gave the order
of service. After making a few
remarks and thanking the
church for all it has done, he
asked Rev. H.L. Manning to de-
liver the morning and evening
sermons.
Rev. Manning also sang a
solo. Charles Shaw read the
scripture and the Jubilee and
Senior choirs performed.
Mrs. I init ial Allen is mov-
ing around again. Mmes. Flor-
ence Brown, Laura Brown, Lil-
lian Frost, Emma King and
Oneva Johnson are also im-
proving.
The Heroines of Jericho,Or-
der of the Eastern Star and
Master Masons will worship
together April 3 in the Mason
Hall at 2:30 in the afternoon.
The Iva Mann Singers will
perform Sunday afternoon,
April 3, at three o'clock in
Barnett Chapel.
Mrs. Ida Mosby flew to Okla-
homa City, to be at the bedsid*
of her daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Pete Mosby, who delivered a
grandchild to the Kerrville res-
ident.
Although still in the VA hos-
pital, Elmer Washington is re-
ported to be feeling better.
Mrs. Edna Benson visited
friends in San Antonio during
the week end.

Sullivan transported Ollle Mil-
ler Sr. to Weimar's Youens
Memorial hospital. Miller's
children came from Houston
and San Antonio to vist him.
Mrs. Douglas Brownlow of
Houston visited her father-in-
law, Robert Brownlow.
Mrs. Mary French of Bart-
lett, aunt of Mrs. Daisy Sweatl,
recently died.
Mrs. Cordia Nichols, Rich-
ard Nichols and Rev. George
Jackson visited Mrs. Alma
Greenwood.
Mrs. Beatrice Kindred plans
to leave April 5 to see her
doctor and her children in Fort
Worth.
Mrs. Claude Brewer's aunt,
Mrs. Lola Blair, died in Los
Angeles, Calif.
Rev. and Mrs. Earnest
Barnes attended St. James Bap-
tist.
St. Paul Baptist held no serv-
ice.
Mrs. Altenite Robinson of
Glddin visited Mr. and Mrs.
