Bill Clinton has
recognized work of
star act at Increase
the Peace Jamboree
A host of local bands and enter-
tainers, including Panzie Johnson,
recent Star Search Winner, will
perform at San Antonio's first "In-
crease the Peace" concert at the
Sunken Garden Theater on Nov. 21.
The concert, which runs from 12
noon until 10 p. m. will feature Jce
Jama and the Proof, Rick Reyes and
the TexAs Outlaws, One Destiny
Reggae Band, Culturas Band, and
plans are also underway to have ap-
pearances by Young Country
Musicala, Troop RTF, Cuffed and
Blind, and Teazers Rock Band.
The featured entertainer will be
Gerald Pride who has the hit record,
"Police Are On The Street."
Pride, a native of Little Rock, Ar-
kansas has received national attention
for the positive lyric > in the song. He
has been recognized on several oc-
casions by President-elect Bill
Clinton for his efforts.
Pride will make an appearance at
the Alamo Branch YMCA prior to
the concert at the Sunken Gardens.
He will appear at the Y at the "Get
The I Can Do It Spirit" contest that
morning. The winners of that
morning's contest will be announced
at the "Increase the Peace Jambo-
ree."
According to Terence L. Bolden,
president of TLB Enterprises, half of
the ticket sales will go to the Alpha
Home, Inc., a rehabilitation center
for women in San Antonio, and the
Alamo Branch YMCA.
The primary goal of the project is to
involve community leaders, neigh-
borhood organizations, law en-
forcement agencies,government of-
ficials, and educational institutions
to help try and defuse the problems
with gang violence, especially drive-
by shootings, as well as drug and
alcohol abuse.
Persons wishing to donate money
or sponsor the event may call 532-
0932 (Alamo Branch YMCA) or the
Increase the Peace Headquarters at
736-2566 or 30404248 (digital
pager).
Also sponsoring the event are KR10
Radio, K'IFM 103, Q% Rock, Kiss
99. 5, KRRT-TV, and KABB TV.
A video of the concert will be pro-
duced by Imagine Entertainment and
sent to MTV.
