We overheard some of our
people talking one day this
week, and they said that they
had located the wheat crop of
1899. It is near Crystal Falls,
on the farm of Geo. H. York.
He having been in town recent-
ly purchasing lumber to build
a grainery to store said crop in.
If anybody else has a wheat-
crop we have failed to hear of
it.

It is Smallpox.
Sometime last week a young
man, who had been working
on the section at Vigo, came to
town and stopped at the home
of Rev. Scruggs, in the east
part of town. He was taken
sick soma time during the
week, and last Saturday the
physicians, Drs. Powell and
Poindwxter said the case was
suspicious, and the City
Council at once quarantined
the patient and the family of
Rev. Scruggs, and Dr. Poindex-
ter was employed to wait on
the sick man.
We have had no opportunity
to talk with Dr. Poindexter
about the case for the last few
days, but Dr. Powell stated
yesterday that he has no doubt
that it is smallpox, but of a
very mild type; that the pati-
ent was • getting along nicely
and that he bad strong hopes
that the disease would be con-
fined to the house where it was
first discovered. He said that
the chances were that Mr.
Scruggs' family would have the
disease.—Baird Star.
S. Webb went to Waco yest-
erday, and will attend the
cattlemen's convention at Ft.
Worth before returning.
J. J. Pettus and family left
Thursday for Abilene, where
they will reside in the futurp.
They are excellent people, and
the Success recommends them
as such to the good people of
Abilene.—Ranger Success.
W. I. Cook was in from his
ranch yesterday.
Mr. Leech has moved his
family here froni Albany and
they now occupy one of the
Joe Wilson dwellings on East
7th St., recently vacated by L.
A. Haley.—Cisco Round-up.

Don't tell lies. Good liars
are useful but poor liars are
bores. It's a safe bet that
though you have lied a great
deal, your work in this line is
still very coarse.
Don'tchew tobacco; dip snuff.
It costs less and is more dis-
gusting.

Don't if chewftig tobacco
while on a street car, spit upon
the floor. Spit inwardly just
once and your stomach will
show how uncomfortably the
poor car feels when spat upon.
Don't try to be a masher
unless you know that you are
an idiot, or are anxious for
others to know it.
Don't say harsh things about
your neighbor. You may
want to borrow his bicyle
some day.
Don't use a tooth brush be-
longing to another. People
are usuallj* sensitive and sel-
fish about their tooth brushes.
Don't abuse the newspapers
in your town. There is 110 tell-
ing when you will steal some-
thing" and want the papers not
to publish you to the world.
Don't do anything that will
hurt another's feelings or any-
body who will find you out.
dont's for women.
Don't gigle. It spoils the
teeth or it should do so if it
does not.
Don't say you never believe
any compliments you hear con-
cerning yourself. The bible
says it is wrong to tell stories.
Don't chew in public if you
can help it. If you must do it
chew a small gob. Large gobs
are no longer fashionable.
Don't paint and powder your
face too highly. Remember
that kalsomine often cracks or
rolls up. It might cake and
slip off.
Don't say mean things about
your neighbor. There is no
telling when he will entertain.
Don't st> quickly and broadly
betray your ignorance of the
etiquette which stamps "lady"
upon countenance and actions,
as to pass by even a speaking
acquaintance without at least
a friendly nod. It costs you
nothing except a little exercise
