"Horrible Weather" is the exclama-
tion of everybody. But then it is the usu-
al Christmas weather, and the hope is
that it will exhaust itself by the time
Christmas comes, so that we shall have a
delightful time for that joyous holiday.
The Election, to-day was a fair illus
tration of the difficulties of Republican
government. The masses, who honestly
waut a good government, pay little atten-
tion to these things, any way, and then
the rain and mud helped tu make them
torget it; thus giving all the advantage
to the designing, who care nothing for
government, except to get a living ont of
the people's mousy. At this writing we
know not how it has fared with the Char-
ter Amendments voted on to-day.

The Choirs of the various churches of
this city need more encouragement from
their congregations. Each one should be
enlarged and strengthened, and some of
them should havenew instruments. They
are the life of the churches. Except where
a ehurch has an unnsually popular preach-
er, the eboirs have more to do in drawing
large congregations than anything else;
and popular preachers are rare in West-
ern Texas.
The ehoir at the Methodist Charch is a
good one, but it needs one more good altu,
and at least two more good soprani; and
it needs, and should have a new instru-
ment. The choir at the Presbyterian
Chnrch baa a good instrument, but it is
too weak. The choir of the Episcopal
Church it a fine one, with a good instru-
ment, bnt it is not strong enough. The
Catholic choirs are net as good as form
erly.
The New Bishops—Bishop Elliott, the
t new Bishop oi the Episcopal Church for
Western Texas, will officiate at Seguin on
nsxt Sunday, and at San Antonio on the
Sunday following.
Bishop Pellicier, the new Bishop of the
Roman Catholio Church, will reach San
Antonio, we are informed, about the mid-
dle ot January. He has just been conse-
crated in Mobile, tie is a native of Sail
Augustine, Florida, and English is bis
native language, though ha also speaks
French and Spanish. For the preseut be
is to make bis home with Rev. Father
' - Johnston, of St. llary's Church, where a
room ia 'being fitted up for him.

Arnica C., and the streets ruuu>0< both
North and South of the new Episcopal
Churoh. are now a sight to look upon.
They are horrible for horses, to say noth-
ing of human being*. The citizens of that
Ward have paid their taxes, and do not
see that any good ha* come of it. They
do not see that it is worth while to pay
taxes, aud feed lazy city offioials for doing
nothing. And Flore* street, even, up
above the Kingsbury place, is loaded with
two feet of mud on top of tba Macadam
grade, brought in ou wheels from the hor-
rible cross streets.
Monsieur Ferdinand Delbomme, from
Paris, is a splendid practical worker in alt
kinds of Human Hair Goods. Having al-
ways a good stock of new styles on band,
be will be glad to wait ou the good citi-
zens of 8an Antonio. Orders may be left

Economical housekeepers should know
that Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder is a
perfect powder, and as such is very light,
aud that those powders which weigh
heavy are made so by ponderous adulter-
ants. As baking powder* are used by
meanure, teaspooufuls, kud not by weight
the heavier ones being lesB efi'eotiveare
wore expensive.
Dr. Prioe'a cans are ihe sai»e size, hold
the same number of teaspoonfnls as others
and as two teaspoonfnls are only needed
when three of the others are required, it
will be porceived that there ia iu its use
an actual saving of one-third; that two
cans of Dr. Price's go as iar as three oans
of the oominOn kinds. Dr. Price's Powder
is not sold iu bulk, it can only be found
pure when bought in cans securely labeled

Aye, that is the question. It is better to
quiver from head to ioot iu the paroxysms
to fever and ague, or to banisn the atroci-
ous diseaso by a ooutse of that standard
antifebrile remedy, Hoatetter'a Bitters.
There cannot be much doubt ftJ to the
response of the malaria-stricken to this
iuquiry. From every locality on this con-
tinent whose inhabitants are tormented
with the shivering plague conies an in
crensiug demand f6r the only genuine pre-
ventative and eradicait of malaria pro
vided by soienoe. Tbn denizens of fever
and ague districts well known how utter-
ly inadequate to do more than give a brief
respite are the so-called remedies of the
faculty. Quinine, arsenic, bismuth—what
are these but poisonous palliatives, which
cease after a time to produce any bene-
ficial effect whatever, and if persisted in
wreak irreparable mischief upon the sys
tem T Everywhere they are being aban-
doned by intelligent persons, and that
genuine vegetable apecifio for intermittent
and remittent disease, Hostteter's Bitters,
substituted in their place.
If Alcoholic Stimulants are ta-
ken into the blood the heart works faster,
and this unnatural speed wears ont the
vital machinery. All intoxicating nos-

should be rejected. Dr. Wai.kkr's Veoe-

Mrs. L. A. Henry
has come among ns for the purpose of
treating all old chronic diseases. The fol-
lowing eertiSoates will show the remark-
able healing powers of the Madam. She
wishos none but old chronio cases, and
can lie consulted at any hour at Mrs.
Philips', on Alamo street:
Mkssiis. Editors:—My wife has been
afilioted with what several ot our best
physicians called neuralgia of the head,
and both eyes swelled to an enormous size,
the camera of the right eye bnrsted and
ran out, as we thought. As a last resort
we called on Madam Henry, who at once
told what the trouble wns, and pronounced
it eresypelas, aud said the eye was not
entirely gate as supposed, and how long it
would take to give relief, as well as the
length of time it would take to effect a
cure. She at once commenced treatment
by applying the hands to the bead and
eyes, relieving the pain almost instanta-
neously. I still thought it no use trying,
only to please, thinking nothing of that
kind could effeot a cure, feeling she must
die.
But by perseverance in two weeks, the
longth of timo the Madam allowed, my
wife was able to open her eyes and walk
from her bed to a chair and all over the
room. I give this without solicitation,
believing it my duty, and hoping the citi-
zens of Sherman may employ and give the
lady encouragement to stay among ua.
The Madam has the best of recommenda-
tions from the leading men and ladies of
Missouri and Texas. I remain your friend,
John Rhodks.
Mri. L. A, Heury,
Dear Madam—In the performance of
what I deem a duty I t&ke pleasure in
adding my testimony to that of the hun-
dreds who have been benefitted by your
healing powers.
I had been an invalid for three year*,
suffering from disease of the luugs, tor-
tured with the most exernciating pains
through the right lung and shoulder, ac-
companied with dispepsia. I could soarcely
speak above a whisper, and my strength
was rapidly failing.
Six weeks ago I came under your won-
derful magnetic treatment. Now my voice
is completely restored, lungs free from
pain and apparently sound, and my form
which seemed crushed and bent by the
disease, is again erect and strong.
I have heretofore been treated by very
many physicians who failed to render me
ought but temporary relief.
In my new-found health and vigor, I
can bnt most gratefully acknowledge the
obligations I am under to yonr superior
