There was considerable excitement yester
day owr the death of a man by the name
of White from Pulaski Tennessee, who had
been in the city about lour days, it was
said to have I veil a case of yellow fever.
The following certificates upon the subject
may serve to allay apprehensions and set
at rest those who are unduly excited.

II. Bell. The people, over a regular dem-
ocratic nomination, elected him a Supreme
Judge, aud they had better give him an-
other boost.
We are pleased to make the acquaint-
ance of Sitwell Harris, Esq., recently from
California, and to learn that he has deci-
ded to make Dallas his home. Mr. and
Mrs. Harris will be a valuable acquisition
to our society.
Our old friend, Gen. Ephraim Daggett,
of Fort Worth, favored us with a cull, aud
we had a pleasant chat over the good old
times. He is canvassing for Congress as
an Independent in this district and regards
Ilia chance as good for an election.
Our townsman, J udge Thurmond, seems
to be regarded as the ablest advocate of
the greenback cause. He took Fort Worth
by starm recently and it is said will soon
move upon Sherman with all his force and
demolish the Martini and others of the de-
mocracy.
Wt had n pleasant call from Hon. Jo-
seph D. Sayers, democratic candidate for
lieutenant-governor, an old friend and in
ante bellum times subscriber to the Intel-
LtoCKCER. He is a very worthy young
man and his nomination was creditable to
liia party.
The republican state central committee
lias aet to work in organizing for the cam-
paign. Dr. Cochran, the chairman, and
James Bentley, the treasurer, want to hear
from tbe faithful and true throughout the
great state. Let committees for work be
appointed In every precinct, fie up and
doing.
The excitement over the cutting of Geo.
Rodgers' throat and head by Tom fireen
baa pretty much died away. Breen has
been admitted to bail in $500, and now the
Dallaa public will draw a shoit breath till

Fort Worth, Sept. '27.— As the
Cleburne stage arrived within about
sixteen miles of Fort Worth, yes-
terday, two masked men halted it
with six-shooters in hand, and de-
manded the money of the passen-
gers and driver. None had any
save one man, who hand'd them
thirty cents. This they refused to
take. There was a lady on board
who had $100, but they did not
search her. She asked them if
they cxpected to get to Heaven,
when one of them replied : "Yes,
by , of course we do."

—Bryan, Sept. 1G.—S.1111 Wilson
alias Skinner, a colored youth
brought up here from Galvestou a
few days since to pick cotton, was
arrested here last Saturday and
lodged in the county jail for kill-
ing, liy stabbing with a knife, a
negro living on Col. Wilson's place
in the bottom.
—Austin, Sept. 20.—B. P. Vin-
son, registered from Texas at the
Avenue hotel, took several giaics
of strychnine to-day —enough to
kill several, but prompt remedies
were administered and he is now
considered out of danger. He had
been in the lumber business in
eastern Texas and was connected
tor a time with the New Orleans
railroad.
