ed to grant the petition for a new
trial of W. Vv\ Ilea, sentenced last
Saturday to be hanged April 25,

sination ot James Goodwin. Rea
still asserts his innocence. It is
likely a petitiou will be presented
to the Governor for a commutation
of the sentence on account oi the
con mo ton being based entirely on
circunntantial evidence.
The Supreme Court to-day sen-
tenced Andrew Jackson White to
be executeii\>n the 28th of April, in
Dickson county, for the inurde;
of James P. C.'ardy on the 25th of
January, 1881, Clardy was s>
bachelor, who resided a'one, and
was killed for his money. Tht

mercy of flie Governor on accoum

At their home on Bryan street, last Sat-
urday, little Wi'lie and Maty Clark cele-
brated, respectively, their 6th and 9th
birthdays. Mary's being on Fliday, the
10th, and Willie's on the day of the ret-
ention. Several of their little friends
were invited, and all had a jolly good
time. We hope these tvso little folks
