Cotton ia opening rapidlv and our
farmers are busily engaged in pick-
ing.
The fest of the Hermann Sons at
this place on the 5th instant was a
glorious success. Everything pass-
ed off quietly, reflecting credit on
members of the Lodge who served
on the committees.
Messrs. Frank Pelkemeyer, Herm
fteimer and Emil Lange, three of
our prosperous young farmers, have
returned from a prospecting- trip up
into Falls and Bell counties.
! Miss Alma Meyer of Brenham,
visited relatives here last week.

ugly and painful wound. Dr. Kwach
was summoned and dressed the

well as could be expected.
Mr. Julius Stolz was here from
Somerville last Sunday.
Mr. A. W. Kusch of i'uttsboro,
Grayson county, was here last week
a guest of his brother. Dr. L. Kusch,
Mr. Kusch states that in bis section
the oat and wheat cropB turned out
very well, while corn was almost an
entire failure. Cotton is late and
will need seasonable raias to make
anything.

Lange a fine daughter each and the
"young daddies" are in high glee in
consequence
Mrs L. Kuech has returned from
a delightful visit to friends in the
Island Oity.
While Mr. Hcrm Ileimer wasengag
ed in cutting hay last week his dog
was caught in the machine and had
two of his legs cut off, and the poor,
faithful little animal was killed to
put him out of his misery.
The local Farmers' Union held an
interesting meeting last Monday.
Live Oak, Long Point and Hodde-
ville Unions were represented.
A nice shower of rain fell here
last Monday afternoon, benefiting
meadows and pastures to some ex-
tent.

over two thousand gallons of molas-

Mr. Otto Menkinp, a merchant of
Haw Creek, has completed a tele-
phone line to the three neighboring
gins, which enables him to purchase
cotton through phone communica-
tion.
A ball game took place last Sun-
day on the Nassau diamond between
the Nassau and West Mill Creek
teams, resulting in a victory for the
latter team by a score of 18 to 7.
Mr. Fred Fricke has returned
from Maud, Texas, where he had
gone to Bee his son-in-law, Mr. W.
von Rosenberg, who has been quite
sick.
A dance was tfiven at the Shelby
hall one night last week, and the
event was finely enjoyed by old and
young. Blue Bibbon.
