Labor organizations so far as
are concerned have proved
failures. In many instances there
lias been a lack of unity. At a re*
cent meeting of a labor organiza-
tion in Chicago a resolution was
passed stating that they prefer the
ballot to the bullet, reason to ruf-
fianism; united and intelligent ac-
tion to meaningless violence as the
agency best calculated to remove
the evils of whioh they complain.
Sense and reason are well calculat-
ed to accomplish a solution of the
labor question, and in a manner
that may possibly restore the good
feeling that ought of right to exist
between employer and employe.
It is a notorious fact that in small
establishments there are rarely
strikes. The strikes are usually
against the large corporations,
railways and extensive miniifg
companies, from the very general
opinion that corporations are mo-
nopolies, and so they are. But if
we have a Democratic system of
government, its change is in the
hands of the people, all they have
to do is to appeal to the ballot box
and elect mon to the legislatures
who will pass such laws governing
-corporations as will bo satisfactory
to the majority of those" who are
interested. The question of the
relation of capital to labor has oc-
cupied tho time and attention oi
many of the ablest minds in the
country, but so far theories only
have been evolved, wo are appar-
ently as far from a solution of this
vexed problem as ever. It may be
that time, which solves every prob
lem, will solve this one.

Dallas. It is, as has on several oc-
casions been stated in these col
umns, one of the best agricultura
papers published in tho south. Its
former home was m Austin, but it
was moved to Dallas purely on
business considerations, and
booms Dallas for everything in
sight. We do not usually have
anything to say about the business
affairs of our cotemporaries, but
it is stated that'the business men
of Dallas guaranteed tbo Farm anc
Ranch an advertising patronage o
$12,000 per year.

floves on, at Shady view park in
Dallas, between two professionals,
was knocked in the head by county
attorney Clint, who had the sheriff

encounter. $3000 was staked on
the result of the battle, which it is
