* In view of the article published
as an advertisement in the Banner
of the 8th inst. entitled "The Bren-
ham Water Company and the City
of Brenham." We the undersigned
eitiaens and tax-payers would most
respectfully desire to express our
unqualified approval of the action
of the city in the course pursued
by them against the Brenham
JVater Company; and replying to

weald again say that the action of

tho Brenham Water Company has
been injured through the course
pursued by the city, let them go to

o believe that the oity council
its representatives, theoity at-

conscienciously and for the host
interest of the oity and the tax-

the fkot that i ji
and helpless man wa» lying
vicinity of the union depot without
money and without frienda. At
five o'olock Friday morning his
lamp of life went out. A fewchair-
itable citisehs in the neighborhood
of the depot had made up a small
purse and had the man removed
from the street to the house of a
colored woman, Aunt Easter,
where he died and was laid out on
a cot. His remains wore seen by
a Bannir reporter; he was appar-
ently about 88 or 40 years of age,
dressed in the garb of a laborer
and was apparently a railroad or
section band. When he arrived
here he was sick and helpless,
but as previously stated, neither
the city or the county has, under
the law, any authority to render
official assistance, this man was
left to suffer and die almost like a
dog. His cffects consisted of a
plug of tobacco and a few well-worn
clothes. There was not a paper of
any kind in his possession to show
his identity. As neither the city
or county is, under the law, res-
ponsible, the question as to what
Should be done with the remains
had not been settled last night and
Aunt Easter has a corpse on her
hands.
