BSU Designed For
Spiritual Guidance
The Baptist Student Union
of Lamar Tech is a campus
organization designed to
link the student and the
church.
The ultra-modem center
is owned and operated by
Baptist District Three and
the Baptist General Con-
vention of Texas.
The BSU functions
through a BSU Councilj^j
composed of 12 students
and one faculty member.
This year's officers are:
Deryl Fleming, president;
Marguerite Jones and Leon
Obenhaus, enlistment;
Frances Berry, social; Pat
Hubbard, devotional; Mad-
eleine St .Clair, secretary-
treasurer;Nellie Don Stir-
ling, promotional; Gene
Pruett, music; John Quinn,
missions; Dennis McDan-
iel, student center; Dr.
Ralph Wooster, faculty ad-
viser, and Rex Hopson,
student director.
This group plans the ac-
tivities for die college
community. They seek to
promote spiritual devel-
opment of students through
Christ ian comradeship,
Bible study .prayer, church
membership and denomi-
national loyalty.
Numerous activities are
offered the Baptis t stu-
dents at the student cen-
ter. Bible courses are of-
fered for college credit by
Rev. J. C. Clement.
Morning Watch meets
each week day from 7:40 to
8 a.m. A private prayer
room is available for use
at all times.
Other facilities at the
center include a study-
room and recreation
room. The center is open
each day from 7 a.m. to
8:30 p.m.__
Rex Hopson, Baptist Stu-
dent Union Director, holds
the Bachelor of Arts de-
gree from Baylor Univer-
sity and the Master of Re-
ligious Education from
Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary at
Fort Worth.
