Ten Beauties Vie For
Lamar Students Participate In Model U N
by Elvis Mason
A model United Nations
A ssembly program was
conducted on the SMU
campus last week-end in
observance of the 13th an-
niversary of the founding
of the United Nations. Six
students from our campus
attended with three stu-
dents representingeach of
the two countries of India
and Canada.
A great deal of effort and
detailed planning had gone
into the preparation of the j
program and it was indeed
a most memorable exper-
ience .
Each delegate was in-
structed to put aside his
personal viewpointsand to
represent his designated
country on the issue at
hand. The subject for our

The nejvs story in the Red-
bird, October 24, 1958, ti- .

stalled in Library" is mis-
leading. In the first place ■,

proval and budget.
It was also stated in last
week’s edition that a con- ,
test was held between the
sorority and fraternity |
pledge classes to win a
trophy for selling the most
annuals. However, two con-
tests were conducted: one
for the sororities and one
for the fraternities. Alpha I
Tau Omega and Sigma Nu
tied for first place in the
fraternity contest; and Del-
ta Zeta placed first in the
sorority contest.
Junior Mum Sale
Begins Monday
The Junior Class mum

raising funds for the trad-

George Markley, Junior
Class president stated that
a pre-game sales price of
consideration was the For-
mosa crisis.
On hand for the keynote
address was the distin-
guished retiring President
of the United Nations, Sir
Leslie Munro, of New Ze-
land. He captivated the
large audience with his
stirring speech on the U-
nited Nations and his firm
conviction that therein lies
the future of the world to-
day.
Politically speaking, we
were divided into three
blocs: the pro communist
bloc; the pro democratic
bloc; and the neutral bloc..
After completing debate in
our bloc meetings, each
group returned to the Gen-
eral Assembly with a res-
olution concerning the crit-
ical situation facing the
world today off the China
mainland.
In the General Assembly^
each resolution was de-
batedat length, and finally.
the one submitted bv the
neutral bloc received the
necessary two-thirds ma-
jority for passage. With
only minutes remaining be-
fore adjournment, neces -
sarv concessions were
made in order to obtain the
support needed to pass the
resolution.
It was gratifying to see
'such a large number of
college students taking"
time out to give serious
