There Is an Office for You
Filing begins Monday for next year's student body
officers. There are offices to fill that should be of
interest to every student; and every student should
consider running for an office.
This year there are more offices than ever before to
be filled. And this year there should be more people
than ever before running for each office.
Today think about running for an office. Monday file
for that office 1

MISS AND MR. FTA CANDIDATES-Betty Ray
Waneck and Ken Dugas are Lamar's candidates for
Miss and Mr. FTA this weekend at the state FTA
convention at Sam Houston. Each will make a two
minute speech on "Education, an Investment in
Humanity."
By Carl Siebenthall
This column could well be
headed with the old line,
"Local Boy Makes Good!"
Perhaps some of you will
remember Julius McQueen,
former student of Lamar
and resident of Port Neches.
Prior to shooting of the
film "Battle Cry, Julius
walked into the office of
some big wheels in Holly-
wood and very emphatical-
ly said, "I'm going to play
the role of L. Q. Jones!'
He was so completely dif-
ferent in his approach to the
power s-that-be in star-
studded Hoi 1 ywood that
they decided to give him a
try. At that very moment a
new star began to rise over
■ the bright lights of Holly-
wood.
In "Battle Cry" Julius
steals the show. His com-
edy scenes, especially
those in which he mimics
the Sergeant, are terrific.
He does such a great job
and is so pleased with the
response he has received
that he has accepted for his
own the name of the person
he portrays in the movie,
L. Q.Jones.
The Jefferson theatre in
Beaumont makes it possi-
ble for you to see and enjoy
antics of the boy from Port
Neches, the former Cardi-
nal. "Battle Cry" opens a
four-day run today.

people who can eat her
strawberry pie three times
a day and keep her vital
statistics at 34-24-26 and
her weight at 114 pounds.
A 5'4" Reveler, she also
loves dancing, basketball
and travel ing. Her great
possibilities will be aimed
at fashion modeling.
Shirley says, "I can't stand
house work. I can't stand
homework. In short, I can't
stand work."
Her blond hair sees a lot
of good old sunshine, for
Miss Beard enjoys the fresh
air and outdoors, espec-
ially at Galveston.
Her blue eyes like to see
new scenes. High on the
list of these were seen on
her excursions to New Or-
leans and the caves of New
Mexico.
Her major is social sci-
ence, but she forgot all
about it when posing with
some posies.
