THE REDBIRD
THESE ARE FOR YOU! LUCKY DROOOLES!

ssasM
By Marvin Jones
The convocations were
one of the highlights of Re
ligious Emphasis Week.
The Rt. Rev. Mr. Hines
delivered inspirational
messages that will long be
remembered by those in
attendance. Bishop Hines
is one of the most unfor-
getable persons to come on
the campus in a long time.
He has a wit to be exceed-
ed by very few.
I have been told the panels
were wonderfully moder-
ated. The members of the
panels,composed of speak-
ers and faculty, were also
of great help to those pre-
sent. Our deepest appre-
ciation to those faculty
members for making this
week a success. This writ-
er wishes to express his
appreciation also to the
Student Center director's,
students and administra-
tion for their contribu-
tions .
The panel "The Atom
was of great interest to all
students interested in the
future of the world as this
is one of the most vital is-
sues facing the people of
the world. The Rev. Mr.
Lamberth was moderator
with Roy Biser as faculty
member.
"The Ring," need I say,
was of great interest to all.
It is said that one reason
for attending college is to
attract a mate. Whether or
not this is true, the writer
will not say. This is a
matter that will be ap -
proached by each of us at
one time or another. The
moderators for these pan-
els were Dr. W.F. Howard
and tie Rev. Mr. Ettling
with Dr. E. S. Hayes and
Dr. C. A. Davis, faculty
members.
All present gained from
the panel on "The Boun-
dary.” The subject of the
racial problem was
brought up, and the panel
did an excellent job of dis-
cussing it. This panel was
moderated by the Rev. Mr.
Mauldin with Claude Boren,
faculty member.
Even the financial inter
ests were catered to with
a panel on "The Dollar.”
One of on?' local ministers
was chosen as moderator,
the Rev. Mr. Mullendore
from Port Neches .The fac-
ulty member was Dr. Joe
Ashby. As is obvious from
the constant reference to it
in our everyday conversa-
tion, it is utmost in our
minds.
Just because RE Week has
passed is no reason for us
to forget it until next year.
We have a decisive encoun-
ter with God in our every-
day life, and the choices we
make Are our answers to
this decisive encounter.
Purpose of REW was to
bring students in closer
contact with God, that
through this contact with
him, they m ight have a
richer and fuller life in the
future.
Ex Tech Is
Top Teacher
John Donaldson, a 1955
physical education gradu-
ate of Lam ar Tech, has
been elected "Teacher of
the Month" in the Jackson-
ville, Tex., public schools.
A native of Vinton, La.,
Mr. Donaldson is football
backfield coach and coach
of the basketball B-team at
Jacksonville High School.
He was a member of the
Lamar Tech football team
as a student.
And when the end draws
near, they might say as the
Apostle Paul did, "I have
fought a good fight, I have
kept the faith, the victory
is mine."
