Superb Acting
Highlights Oedipus
With three booming thuds,
the intense swell of the or-
gan, and a flickering torch-
light procession, players
and audience entered the
world of ancient Greek
drama at the Curtain
Club's presentation of
"Oedipus Rex" at dress
rehearsal Tuesday night.
Zellard Brooks' magnifi-
cent portrayal of Oedipus
was matched by the equal
acting skill of the entire
cast. Sammye Julian was
strikingly dignified as Jo-
casta, the king's wife,
while Tom W i 1 ey in the
role of creon and Howard
Burris as the priest gave
really classical interpre-
tations of character.
The best supporting ac-
tor was Paul Jones as the
blind prophet Teiresias.
The eloquent discovery
scene between Teiresias
was indicative of the high
caliber of acting and di-
recting evident through-
out the entire production.
