THE REDBIRD
‘TV To Broadway
Seeks Playwrights
An intensive campaign to
find scripts by. recognized
or promising new play-
wrightswill be undertaken
by TV to Broadway Produc -
tions ,a new producing firm
established by O s c a r S
Lerman.
TV to Broadway Produc
tions has been organized to
present plays in the vari
ous fields: first, on tele
vision and subsequently,on
the Broadway legitimate
stage and/or films. A new
video show, "TV to Broad
way," is planned to show
case these scripts.
Lerman is also currently
preparing "The Woman
With Red Hair," for Broad-
way production this spring
and "Me, Papoose Sitter,"
is scheduled for fall pro-
duction. Lerman will also
be the co-producer of "The
Best Butter," a comedy by
Sam and Bella Spewack.
"The demand for quality
dramas for TV has grown
tremendously because o f
increased dramatic pro-
gramming."
Says Lerman, "It is the
intention, of TV to Broad-
way Productions to test
new scripts on television,
and, if success ful, then
produce them on Broadway,
hi a sense you could liken
this to the. role the summer
stock tryouts play in the
legitimate theater. It has
become increasingly clear
this past season that both
Broadway and Hollywood
are looking eagerly to tele-
vision as a showcase for
potential; properties."
Lerman also points out
that there are thousands of
talented writers through-
out the country who never
even get the opportunity of
having their scripts read.
Be tore submitting any
scripts, an application
may be secured by writing
to TV to Broadway Produc-
tions, Suite 609 147 West
42 Street, NYC, and en-
closing a. self-addressed,
stamped envelope.
Jerry Jones
Editor, Student Directory
This past Saturday the
Student Council had the
privilege of meeting with
the president, vice presi-
dent,deans and department
heads at Lombardo's camp
on Hildebrants Bayou.
This was the first in a
series of retreats that will
be continued by this group.
Purpose of the retreat was
to get a better perspective
on what the duties of the
Student Association are.
One of the main things
discussed was a program
of faculty evaluation .It was
generally agreed that this
w o u Id be of tremendous
value to all concerned. To
make this program a suc-
cess would require the co-
operation of both the fac-
Ity and students.
The parking problem was
also discussed. It seems
that everyone expects to be
able to park behind the
jym. This of course cannot
3e, and within the next few
days Cardinal Dr. will be
closed off, and the bulk of
the parking will have to be
out by the speech building.
New shell walks will be put
in to help during the wet
weather.
So very often students can
be heard complainingabout
some condition they think
should be corrected or
else they think they are not
being treated fairly. All of
us have been guilty of this
one time o i another, but
few of us realize how good
we really have it here at
Lamar. By way of comapr-
ison, Lamar Tech has un-
precidented growth. We
should be award that the
administration spends
about 90 per cent of their
time trying to make condi-
tions better for the student
body.
It more of us would look
around us and see all the
good things instead of the
minor aescripancies we
would realize that odl Gla-
mer Lamar rates with the
best available. Give it
try! 5
