Twelve campus organizations
have registered for the “Cardinal
Christmas* song contest.
The contest will begin holiday
activities Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m.,
in the Cardinal Theatre, accord-
ing to the Cardinal Christmas
committee of the Student Asso-
ciation.
A group is required to con-
tain a minimum of 15 persons
and may not have more than
45. Each group will sing two
Christmas songs.
The groups and the songs which
they will sing are: Alpha Delta
Pi Sorority, “Wexford Carol"
and “Toyland"; and Delta Zeta
Sorority, “Bring a Torch Jean-
ette Isabella” and “Carol of the
Bells.'
Also, Gamma Phi Beta So-

and “Little Drummer Boy'; Al-
pha Chi Omega Sorority, “The
Christmas Song' and ‘Coventry
Carol'; and Phi Kappa Theta

Others are Sigma Nu Frater-
nity, ‘What Child Is This' and
“Winter Wonderland'; Kappa
Delta Sorority, “T*was the Night
Before Christmas' and “Did
Mary Know'; and Sigma Chi Fra-
ternity, songs not listed.
Also the Newman Club, ‘De
Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy';
Sigma Phi Epsilon, ‘Noel'and
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa
Claus'; and Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, ‘Joy to the World'
and “Oh Holy Night.'
Campus organizations should
turn in their 12 Christmas orna-
ments with their names on them
before Sunday so that the Christ-
mas tree representing all the
organizations can be decorated.
Organizations must turn in their
$1 donations by Sunday.
The five organizations entering
Christmas trees are KappaDelta
Sorority, Alpha Phi Alpha Fra-
ternity, Phi Delta Theta Fra-
ternity, Zeta Tau Alpha Soror-
ity, and Gamma Phi Beta Soror-
ity.
Trees must remain up through
Dec. 17 and must be taken down
before Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. or
the responsible organization will
be subject to fine. Names of the
organizations may be displayed
on the trees.
Five organizations have enter-
ed the Christmas tree contest.
The trees that are entered must
be put up between Sunday at 3
p.m. and Monday noon.

The Cardinal Singers of Lamar
Tech will present a special
Christmas concert Tuesday at 8
p.m. in the Cardinal Theatre, ac-
cording to Dr. Ray Moore, dir-
ector.
Admission to the performance
is free.
The evening’s program is di-
vided into two segments. It will
begin with “Greenback Dollar,'
followed by “Dear Heart,' “Geor-
gie Girl,' “The Sweetheart
Tree,' ‘What the World Needs
Now,' “It’s a Blue World,' “On
a Clear Day," and “Fast Freight.'
The second half of the program
will be oriented around a Christ-
mas theme and will include: “It’s
a Holiday,' “White Christmas,*
“The Orchestra Song,' “What
Child is This?' “Moonlight in
Vermont,' ‘De Glory Manger,'
‘Christmas Song,' and will con-
clude with “Silver Bells.*
Members of the CardinalSing-
ers include John Allums, Orange,
sophomore; Becky Bellue, Ned-
erland, junior; Mike Combs,
Groves, freshman; and Beverly
Dunks, pianist from Port Arthur.
Also, Pierce Hendon, Beau-
mont; Brent Landry, Port Ar-
thur, junior; Ricky Masters,Ned-
erland, junior; Mary McClelland,
Navasota, freshman; Genny Par-
ish, Beaumont, junior; Ronnie
Richardson, Beaumont, soph-
omore; and Susan Nicholson,
Beaumont, freshman.
The Singers were organized
in 1964 by their director. Dr.
Ray Moore, assistant professor
and choral director at Lamar.

In addition to many area civic
and social organizations, the
Cardinal Singers also sang at
the dedication of the Sam Ray-
burn Dam, for the Texas Board
of Higher Education and their
guest. Governor John Connally.
The newly organized Student
Action Committee is conducting
an opinion poll this week to de-
termine what students feel to
be issues and problems on cam-
pus.
“If students are concerned,
they have an opportunity to solve
a problem through a unified stu-
dent effort,' Gary Stanford, SAC
Representative to the House,
said.
One of the purposes of SAC
is tq increase student interest
and concern in areas which af-
fect them as students. Another
is to motivate students toward
greater interest in their stu-
dent government, Stanford ex-
plained.
Officers of SAC are Jack
Steele, president; George John-
son, vice president; and Stan-
ford. The faculty advisor is Dr.
Howard Mackey, professor of
history.
The organization will act
through established channels and
in a responsible manner, to make
student government responsive
to the needs and wishes of the
student body, he said.

afternoon in ceremonies in Room

The Texas Student Education
Association will hold its annual
Christmas party in the Educat-
ional Services Center Wednes-
day at 3:15 p. m.
David Hooker, senior arts and
sciences major, will read ‘Mr.
Payson’s Satirical Christmas,'
at the party, according to Nancy
Hybarger, TSEA president.

stalled Alpha Lambda Delta for

monies were Jerry Wayne Bat-
tle, Robert Gayle Briggs, Edward
McCartney, Nelson, Page,
Steve Thomas Riley, Tim John
Rodgers, James Jay Rodriquez
and James M. Verboon. To
qualify for membership, students
must maintain a 2.5 grade point
average for one or two semesters
during the freshman year.
Sponsors are Dr. Roger
Yerick, professor of chemistry;
Dr. A. W. Yeates, professor of
English; and Dr. Edwin Hayes,
dean of the School of Sciences.
Patricia Ann Tansil, Lamar
Tech senior, has been named
queen of the 1967 Pecan Bowl
to be held Dec. 16, when the
University of Texas at Arlington
will play North Dakota State U-
niversity at Abilene.
Miss Tansil, a sociology ma-
jor, is a member of Zeta Tau
Alpha social sorority.
She was chosen over 14 other
contestants on the basis of schol-
arship, school activities, and ap-
pearance.
Miss Tansil is due to arrive in
Abilene Dec. 13 and will be pre-
sented at the Fourth Annual
Pecan Bowl Banquet Thursday
night.
The game will be telvised in
color throughout the midwest re-
gion by the American Broad-
casting Company.
Last year’s queen was Nita
Kaye Van Hook of Newport, Ark.
Miss Tansil is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John T, Tansil
of 955 Dowlen.
Credit To Be Given
For Modern Dancing
Auditions for the Lamar Mod-
ern Dance Company will be held
today at 3:20 p.m. in the dance
studio of the Union Gym.
Members of the dance com-
pany receive one hour credit
per semester which counts to-
ward the physical education re-
quirement.
