Les Belles Cardinelles
Has Been Completed
Les Belles Cardinelles, beauty section of the Cardinal
annual, was completed with the judging last Sunday
afternoon at a seated tea in the union lounge.
The girls arrived at 2 p.m.§ were registered and
served while being observed by the judges.
Mary Grace Jones and Rose Giardina registered
guests as Toni Follmer and Olive Aim Basco served.
Morris Edelson acted as master of ceremonies and
announced the 15 finalists.
The judges then retired to the faculty lounge where
each finalist was observed separately. The finalists
were then narrowed down to the six Belles Cardinelles.
Each Belle Cardinelle will receive a full page in The
Cardinal yearbook in the new beauty section.
Finalists were Pat Halfin, Olive Ann Basco, Dixie
Miller, Ann Shaw, Antoinette Daleo, Bette Stead, Irma
Dee Renfrow, Liz Benton, Toni Follmer, Wanda Cruse,
Camille Alexander, Nancy Parker, Frances Wimberly,
Rose Giardina and Jo Ann Bockman.

more accounting major from Beaumont; Camille Alex-
ander, sophomore physical education major from
Houston; Olive Ann Basco, junior speech major from

Tech Drama Department Presents
‘George Washington Slept Here’
Rehearsals are well under way for the next speer
and drama department presentation "George Washing-
ton Slept Here." A comedy in three acts by Moss Hart
and George Kaufman, "George" will be presented Mon-
day, March 12 through Friday, March 16, at 8:15 p.m.
on the second floor of the Union Building.
Admission will be $1 for adults, 60$ for students or
by activity card.
The following cast is working under the direction of
Charles Lane: Curtis Prince, Betty Sue Mangano, Sam
Havens, Henry Parsons, Elsie Whiddon, Lawrence
Schkade, Vera Crain, Mona Doughtry, Marilyn Brown,
Ed Perry, Howard Burris, Billie Marie Cooper, Jean
Craig, Pat Lennon, John Quinn and Tom Hellwig.
An added attraction is the manner in which "George
Washington Slept Here" is being staged, since arena
staging or theatre-in-the-round is being used. In
arena staging, the audience is seated on all sides of
the actors and playing area. This establishes a closer,
more intimate relationship between the actors and
the audience.
"George Washington Slept Here" was first produced
in October, 1940. Hollywood also capitalized on its
success in a movie starring Jack Benny and Percy
Kilbride. "George" chronicles the trials and tribula-
tions of a blundering little man who craves and gets
his place in the country, only to find that it is window-
less, waterless, and almost roofless.
The three acts are spiced liberally with neighborly
quarrels, attempted elopements, a prodigal uncle, a
juvenile delinquent, and an invasion of weekend guests.
