Religious Emphasis Week
The theme of Religious Emphasis Week, Feb. 7-9 is
"The Decisive Encounter." The Rt. Rev. John E. Hines,
bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will be the
principal speaker during each of the convention ses -
sions, scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs-
day at 10 a.m.
When asked the purpose for Religious Emphasis
Week, the Rev. Lane Denson, director of Canterbury
Association, said, "The purpose is to emphasize that
Traffic Control
Proves Good
Traffic controls current-
ly in practice are proving
very satisfactory, accord-
ing to Lloyd Taylor, assis -
tant dean of men.
Registration of autos is
an important part of the
traffic control. Mr. Taylor
reminds all students be-
ginning at Lamar next
semester to register their
automobiles with his office
during the regular regis-
tration proceedings.
He also reports that a
large number of currently
enrolled students have not
register ed their autos.
Seventy-five per cent of the
traffic tickets now being
issued by the campus
checkers are for viola-
tions of the registration
rulings.
If a ticket is issued for
non-registration,the reci-
pient of the ticket should
report to Dean Taylor's Of-
fice, upstairs in the union,
and register the automo-
bile in question .If this pro-
cedure is followed, the
ticket is voided and no fine
is invoked; but, if the auto
is not register ed and a
second ticket is issued, the
person receiving the ticket
will be fined.
Checkers are continually
at work during the' school
day. At the present Dean
Taylor's office reports
satisfaction with the fact
that relatively few infac-
tions of the traffic laws are
being committed.
The current plan of
chekcing, issuing tickets,
fining and hearing appeals
will be continued in the
hope of providing ample
parking space on campus
and in attempting to make
our campus accident proff.
All v e t e r a ns currently
enrolled should report to
the testing and placement
office during the coming
week to sign their certifi-
cations forpay. All veter-
ans who will not be in La-
mar next semester should
advise the office of this
fact .The testing and place -
ment office is in Room
107 A.
campus life for students,
faculty and administrative
personnel is made up of a
series of decisive encoun-
ters. Whatever a person
believes in and abides by
is his religion. Religious
Emphasis Week is merely
to remind us that these en-
counters are the stuff of
life. The week does not in-
tend just to be another cal-
endar event. It will be a
time during which we may
concentrate our thinking
on such vital questions as
'Who am I?' 'Why ami
here?’ 'Where am I going?'
We can not answer these
questions in three short
days. We can, however,
find the beginnings of
w o r k i ng solutions 'which
we may grow in our lives."
