Is Planned
For 1969-70
The 1969-70 Artist Series
schedule has been announced by
Dr. Ted Skinner, Dean, School
of Fine and Applied Arts.
This year, the Artist Series
was responsible for bringing Up
With People and the Dutton Quar-
tet to the campus.
One June 18 this summer, Fla-
menco in Concert will come to
Lamar. Flamenco consists of
Teodoro Morca and La Conte
de Loyo with Benito Palacios.
In the fall semester, Max Mo-
rath will present ‘Turn of the
Century”, an original one-man
show, on Oct, 13 in the Lamar
Theatre. On Sunday, Nov. 9, The
Chicago Symphony String Quartet
will play in the Theatre.
In the spring semester, the
Preservation Hall Jazz Band
from New Orleans will give a
concert in McDonald Gym Feb
24.
April 1, Giorgio Tozzi, bass-
baritone of the Metropolitan O-
pera, will perform in the thea-
tre.

trict gathering.
Reynolds hit 9.9 in the cen-
tury as a junior, and had a 48.8
anchor lap when the Purples post-
ed a 3:18.6 in the '68 regional
mile relay.
A football letterman at defen-
sive end, Tyrone is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Barnett B. Rey-
nolds of 2907 Pecos Boulevard.
FALL RUSH
Men’s fall formal rush will
begin Monday, Sept. 22 and con-
tinue until Sunday, Sept. 28, Paul
Taylor, assistant dean of men,
reports. Men may register in
Dean Taylor’s office, Room 101,
Administration Annex, beginning
now and continuing until Thurs-
day, Sept. 18.

A Lamar student, Mrs. Nancy
Bradford, was a guest of the
House of Representatives on
Tuesday and Wednesday partici-
pating in committee sessions for
passage of the Smith-Brooks bill.
The Smith-Brooks. Bill is a
$15.5 million dollar compre-
hensive education bill that is
awaiting final action in the House
this week. If passed, the bill
will bring about 30,000 handicap-
ped children into the present
statewide program which is sup-
ported in both the House and
Senate.
Mrs. Bradford is the legis-
lative chairman of S.C.O.P.E.,
a Lamar organization devoted to
the promotion of education, made
up of more than 100 Lamar stu-
dents.
While visiting the House, Rep.
Will L. Smith of Beaumont and
Senator Chet Brooks of Houston
briefed Mrs. Bradford on the bill
and praised the work presently
being done at Lamar in further-
ing the cause of education and
particularly special education in
this state.
Rep. Smith said that “The bill,
if passed, will be the greatest
step forward in the special edu-
cation field since its beginning.”
Cardinal Theatre
Elects Phillips
Members of the Cardinal The-
atre elected Mike Phillips pres-
ident of the theatre for next
year during a meeting last week
in the Music-Speech Building.
Other officers include Becky
Allard, vice president; Jim New-
some, historian; Linda De La
Vergne, reporter; and Gail Caw-
ley, secretary-treasurer.
These officers also will hold
the same posts in Alpha Psi
Omega, national dramatic fra-
ternity, next year.
