KKP names new officers
Kappa Kappa Psi announces its of-
ficers for the Fall semester. They are:
president, Mervin Guthrie, Port Neches
senior; vice president, Lee Blackman,
Groves sophomore; Secretary and
pledge trainer, Tommy Fain, Baytown
sophomore; treasurer, Pat Storms,
Silsbee senior; historian, Chuck Ellis,
Anahuac senior; and assistant pledge

Kappa Kapp a Psi had a picinic with
Tau Beta Sigma at Port Neches Park on
Sunday, Sept. 25.
Kappa Sigma fetes anniversary
Kappa Sigma will have an alumni
party Friday night celebrating their fif-
th anniversary at Lamar.
Cindy McClung, Silsbee sophomore,
was initiated into the Stardusters Sept.
27.
Kappa Sigma held a mixer with Zeta
Tau Alpha Sept. 28.

Sig Ep’s win Bud tournament TSA offers safety course
The Texas Epsilon Chapter of Sigma
Phi Epsilon is the winner of the Third
Annual Budweiser Football Tour-
nament. Sig Ep’s have been the cham-
pions of this tournament all three
years.
The Sig Ep’s also won the Sigma Chi
Chariot race for the third consecutive
year.
Sigma Ep pledges for the year are:
Randy Still, Beaumont junior; Brad
Wilson, Nederland freshman; Monty
McGreevy, Port Neches freshman;
Phi Kappa Theta's pledge class now
numbers thirteen. The last initiation
was held last week when Jim McClure,
Port Arthgr freshman, was inducted.
Pledge Instructor Robert Moffke held a
meeting after the initiation, and
pledgeship was formally started. A
"Welcome Pledges" party was held
Saturday night, and the Initiates were
introduced to the chapter.
New short courses
begin this month
Three new Fall semester short
courses will be starting over the next
several days, according to the con-
tinuing education office.
A course in creative writing began
Oct. 4, a watercolor class begins Oct. 6,
and life-drawing class begins Oct. 8.
There are currently classes being
conducted in indoor house plants,
parent effectiveness, and con-
versational German. Late registration
is accepted In those courses, but full
tuition is required.
Information on fees, registration, and
schedules is available by phoning 838-
8911.

Mazzu, Beaumont sophomores; Tom
Romano, Orange freshman; John
Bebeau, Beaumont junior; Frank
Nelson, Beaumont freshman; Frank
Johnson and Dwain Orr, Lumberton
freshmen; Doug Ripley, Vidor senior;
Danny Boudreaux, Port Arthur junior;
and Vernon Broussard, Groves fresh-
man.
Sigma Phi Epsilon had their pledge
acceptance dance Monday night in the
Rose Room of Hotel Beaumont.
All Phi Kap's are encouraged to
participate in Greek Week. Friday Is
Shirt Day. More Information may be
obtained by contacting Andy Gregory
sophomore Dickinson, at the fraternity
house.
The pledges will sponsor a party this
Saturday night at the fraternity house,
790 Church. Everyone is invited to
attend and support the new pledges.

Lamar and the Texas
Safety Association (TSA) will co-
sponsor a safety and accident
development course at the Holiday Inn
Oct. 11-12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The course, mainly for supervisory
personnel (refinery foremen, depart-
mental heads, etc.), will be taught by
Tom Wilson, a self-employed consulting
safety engineer from Houston.
Tuition, Including a $15 registration
fee, Is $52 for TSA members and $55 for
non-members. Registration ap-
plications may be obtained from the
TSA, Box 9345, Austin, Tex., 78765. The
registration should be in Austin by Oct.
7.
Human relations, maintaining In-
terest in safety, Industrial
housekeeping, materials handling and
storage, and fire prevention and control
will be covered. Each student will be
provided a 406-page supervisors'
manual for one-the-|ob reference.
Wilson, a Lamar junior college
graduate, has performed consulting In
Nigeria, Libya, Puerto Rico and Peru.
Before retiring, he was Mobil Oil de
Venezuela safety director for 20 years
and a Venezuelan national safety
council charter vice-president.
According to Norman Lowery,
Lamar adult training supervisor, the
course is part of the Occupational
Safety and Health program at Lamar's
College of Technical Arts. Additional

Pi Kappa Alpha names pledges
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity has
announced the members of the Fall
pledge class. They are Chuck A. Arena,
freshman; Joe Feldman, junior; Rod-
ney A. Howard, junior; Richard
Morris, sophomore; and Chris Stelly,
freshman, all from Beaumont; Kyle
Scaff, freshman, from Missouri City,
Tex., and Mike Baker, junior from
Deport, Tex.
From Groves are Kirk Wayne Clark,
freshman; Kenward Faul, sophomore;
Michael Huddle, freshman; Mark
Merritt, freshman; Lindy Rachal,
senior; David Simonak, senior; and
Mark Viator, freshman. Jack Ball III,
freshman, is from Brunswick, N.Y.,
and Ricky Davis Hatton, senior, is from
Silsbee.
Jeff Branick, sophomore; Alan
Castaneda, sophomore; Raul (Bo)
Chevez Jr., junior; Ronnie Doty,
sophomore; and Danny Estrello, fresh-
man, are all from Port Arthur. The
pledges from Nederland are Kenneth
Broyles, freshman; Timothy Conn,
sophomore; Wayne Paulus, junior; and
Scott Tibbetts, sophomore.
Other members of the 28-man pledge
class are Thomas Sheppard, freshman
from Port Neches; Tommy McRight,
freshman from Bridge City, and Rocky
Rhoads, freshman from Orange.
Charlie Robbins, senior, and Jack
Ball III, freshman, were initiated into
the brotherhood of Pi Kappa Alpha last
Saturday. Also, Tammy Franks,
sophomore; Leslie Levi, sophomore;
and Julie McRee, sophomore were
initiated into the Little Sisters of the
Shield and Diamond.
The Pikes will have a party after the
Arkansas State game for members, lit-
tle sisters, pledges and invited guests.
