Candidates for finance and operations
position to begin campus interviews

I Cottle announced at a Board of
Regents meeting that candidates for
the office of vice president for finance
and operations would be interviewed
| beginning Aug. 31.
The candidates are Richard Metz,
I vice president for administrative ser-
vices at Frostburg State University in
Maryland; Susan K. Tellier, vice presi-
dent and treasurer at Wells College in
Aurora, N.Y.; and Dennis Graham,
vice president for business affairs and
treasurer of Indiana State University at
I Terre Haute.
Cottle said the three are among the
| top candidates who have applied for
the position, but they are not the only
I candidates who will be interviewed.
“We want to find the best person
for this most important job,” Cottle
| said.
Candidates will be present for
forums during the interview process in
the Spindletop Room on the eighth
floor of Gray Library. Metz will visit
the campus for interviews on Aug. 31.
On Sept. 1, he will appear before an
open forum on the eighth floor of the
library at 10:30 a.m. Tellier will begin
her visit to the campus on Sept.l; and
on Sept. 2, she will appear for an open
forum on the eighth floor of the
library at 1:30 p.m. Graham arrives
on campus Sept. 7 and Sept. 8. He
will appear before an open forum on
the eighth flooT of the library at 1:30
p.m.
Metz is vice president for adminis-
trative services at Frostburg State
University and has served in this posi-
tion since 1987. FSU is a public insti-
tution with 4,500 undergraduate and
700 graduate students and is part of
the University of Maryland system.
He is responsible for the areas of
finance, accounting, budget, plant
operations, auxiliary services and an
operating budget of $44 million.
He serves as a member of the
Institutional Strategic Planning Group,
UMS Bond Committee and is a mem-
ber of the board of directors of the
UMS Computing Services Center.
Before coming to FSU, Metz
served eight years as director of auxil-
iary services for Lehigh University.
From 1971 to 1979, he served two
years as assistant to the president of
Essex Community College and as the
college center operations manager at
Towson State University for five years.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from
Ohio State university and a master’s
degree from Johns Hopkins University.
Tellier is vice president and treasur-
er at Wells College, a 500-student
woman’s institution in Aurora, N.Y., a
position she has held since 1989. Her
duties range from chief financial offi-
cer to supervising departments that
include administrative computing,
physical plant, financial aid, security,
bookstore and controller.
She is also responsible for the
institution’s investments, new con-
struction, contract negotiations and
budget and insurance matters.
Tellier served the University of
Virginia from 1984 to 1989 where she
was responsible for the collection of
revenue totaling $125 million annually.
Her other responsibilities included
negotiating the university’s banking
relationships, operation of the billing
and receiving system and collection
receivables and cashiering. She was
director of budget and finance for the
division of continuing education from
1981 to 1984.
Between 1971 and 1981, Tellier
worked as assistant general auditor for
National Bank and Trust Company,

She is a certified public accountant
and earned a bachelor’s degree from
the University of Massachusetts and a
master’s degree from the University
of Chicago.
Graham is vice president for busi-
ness affairs and treasurer of Indiana
State University, Terre Haute, a posi-
tion he has held since July 1989. Prior
to assuming that post, he was business
manager and assistant treasurer for six
years. In his present position he
administers all business and financial
affairs of the university, including
budget control, financial accounting,
investments, internal auditing, busi-
ness information systems, payroll,
purchasing, personnel benefits, opera-
tion and maintenance of the physical
plant and supervision of pew con-
struction and capital renovation.
From 1978 to 1981, he was direc-
tor of administrative services at the
Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore, where he was
responsible for all fiscal and business
operations related to the multi-campus
Conservatory of Music and
Preparatory School.
Before assuming that post, he was
assistant controller, manager of gener-
al accounting and senior accountant at
Johns Hopkins University from 1974-
1978. He was a cost analyst at the
University of South Florida.
He holds an A.A.S. in accounting
from Monroe Community College in
Rochester, N.Y., a bachelor’s degree
from the University of South Florida
and a master's degree in higher educa-
tion administration from Johns
Hopkins University. He attended the
Institute for Education Management at
Harvard University in 1991. He is a
certified public accountant.
