The Ariel club held its weekly meet-
ing last Thursday whh the president,
Mrs, J. C. Coit, at her home on West
Oak street. A large number of the
members were in attendance and the
meeting was an interesting one. The
lesson was act II, scene 1, one of the
wittiest scenes of the comedy, ''Much
Ado About Nothing,'' and interesting
notes were read by the members. Mrs.
W. A. Ponder read an interesting pa-
per on "Martin Luther'
Koonce lead the table talk,
of the Home in Society," with some
very good remarks. The club was
notified that Mrs. Henry Exall could
not because of sickness fill her date
of the20th to lecture here. The meet-
ing for next week will be held with
Mrs Jenkins at her home on Sycamore
street.
By request of the hostess, Mrs. W.
D. Coulter, the Ariel Club held its
weekly meeting with her yesterday in-
stead of today, the regular time of
meeting.
The lesson, Act II, Scans 2, was
1 and comm -nted on. Two inter-
esting papers were read. ' 'Ecclesiastic-
al Learning'' being the subject of that
by Mrs. Abney, and "The Spaniard
in History" being the subject of the
other read by Mrs Coit
The club adjourned to meet next
Thursday at 8:30 o'clock, the hour be
ing changed by motion, with Mrs.
Coit.
After adjournment the club was in-
vited to remain and was ushered into
another room, which was decorated in
national colors and many emblems

each member found at her plate a little
hatchet, to which was tied with red,
white and blue ribbon a card having on

W. H. Penick, of Stony, whom Town
i Topics quoted last week as saying that
| wheat was seriously damaged, was in
j town yesterday and said that wheat was
not hurt much by the freezes, but that
1 it is now needing rain.
In a letter to The Record and Chron-
icle, W. N. Karnes, formerly a citi-
zen of Denton county, but now of Cor-
dell, O. T., writes:
' 'My friends will be glad to know
that my family is reasonably well and
we are getting along out here splendid! r
financially. We made a good crop and
have no right to complain.''
J. B. Doyle of Slidell was in town
this week. To Town Topics Monday,
Mr. Doyle said:
'There is an epide'nic of measles in
and around Slidell and considerable
trouble is being caused with it by the
disease refusing to break out. One of

A New Marshal.
In the absence of Marshal W. S. Fry,
who is in California on business, R. M.

Lecture Postponed.
Owing to Mrs. Exall's illness the
lecture, which it was announced sne

future date yet to be determined upon.
