John R. Edwards announces in The
Record and Chronicle this week as a
candidate for district clerk subject to
the action of the democratic party.
Dr. E W. II. Shelbnrne. who is in
Austin attending the special session of
the legislature, announces this week as
notorial representative from Denton,
Wise and Cooke counties.
Mr. and Mrs. (J. H. Blewett. who
for the past few ''ears have been living
near Decatur, have moved back to Den-
ton and are domiciled in the old Deav-
enport house in South Denton.
A home is wanted for three girl chil
dren, aged 9, 1 and 5 years, respect
ively, belonging to a poor, but
thorough.)' respectable family. The
family itself, consisting of two women,
an old man and eight children, is re
ported to be in absolute want and desti-
tution. Particulars can be obtained
from Mrs. A. J. Fonts, on W«st Oak
street.
The Record and Chronicle is re-
quested by Rev. R L. Selle, pastor of
the Oak Street Methodist Episcopal
church, to say that the meeting which
was to begin in his church the first week
in February has been postponed a few
weeks, two or three, possibly, on
account of the evangelist,O B.Strouce,
being detained in Louisiana longer than
was expected. The meeting will be
held soon.
Bishop C. '' McCabe, who was ad-
vertised to sing and preach at the Oak
Street Methodist Episcopal church on
Wednesday night of this wtek. will not
be here until next week, at which time
he will preach Monday and Tuesday
evenings at 7::50 p. m.. also Tuesday at
11 a. m. , and will meet the Children's
Meeting at-4:15 p. in. the same day

Stroud of this city, were married at the
home of the bride's parents Sunday,

bama, are in the city visiting Mrs.
Armstrong's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.

R. A. Schweer entertained a number
of friends at dinner Sunday. Those
present were: Misses Eva Blount, Grace
Kenagy and Luella Hann, and Messrs
B. Williams and Wiley Smith.
Mrs. James R. Edwards enteitained
the Woman's Sccial club at her home
on West Sycamore street Fri. ay after
noon. Light refreshments were served.

iams and Miss Fay Kearby of Dallas.

The cards, 300 in number, for the
wedding of Miss Noyle Alene Graham,
youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs. A.
E. Graham of this city, and Mr. Leroy
Travis Millican, also of Denton, were
issued Saturday. The wedding will
take place at the First Baptist church
next Thursday, February 15, at high
noon. The wedding promises to be an
unusually swell affair. After the cere-
mony Mr. and Mrs. Millican will go on
a short wedding tour to New Orleans
and will be at home at the Hotel Oat-
man after March 1.
Colonel and Mrs. A. H. Belo gave a
dinner last night to Miss Helen Ponder
of Denton . The guests of the evening
were: Miss Cargill of Houston, Mrs.
Barbour of Louisville, Miss Atkius,
Miss Newman, Miss Flippen; Mr!
Manning Shannon, Mr. H. Lee Ed
wards, Mr. St. George Brooke Tucker,

Mr Ponder announced the engagement
of his daughter, Miss Helen Ponder, to
Mr. Alfred H. Belo, Jr. —Dallas News,

The Ariel club met last Thursday
with Mrs. F. A. Tompkins. Thebusi
ness of electing a delegate to the annual
meeting of the Texas Federation of
Women's clubs came up, but it,was de-

ALLEGED SUICIDE-
Fannie Doyle, Former Resident of Denton.
Alleged to Have Killed Herself.
Miss Fannie Doyle was found dead near
McKinney Sunday afternoon and a cor-
oner's verdict delivered Monday pro-
nounced the case to ha**e been suicide.
Miss Doyle lived in Denton county up
to a few months ago, when she went off
with a family named McCurley.
Her mother, Mrs. M. E. Staples,
claimed that the girl was prevented
from leaving the people and swore ont
a complaint against Will McCurley.
charging him with abduction. In the
meantime, however, the McCurley
family,had disappeared,seemingly, anil
no trace of them had been found until
the alleged suicide was reported.
Mrs. Staples, the mother of the un-
fortunate girl, left for McKinney last
Tuesday morning and Sheriff Hawkins
and Louis Barnhill left the same after-
expected.

The 0-year-old daughter of J.
Taylor, near Corinth, had
escape from being burned to death last
Friday. She was playing about an
open fire when her clothes became ig-
nited, and, screaming, ran toward her
father, who was in the house nearoy.
The child's clothes were torn off her,
but not before she had suffered serious
burns, but they are not thought to be
necessarily fatal.
