From the telegraphic dis-
patches received in relation to
the TurcojRussian war it is al-
most impossible to tell how the
fight is progressing as both
sides generally claim a victory.
At present, from the best infor-
mation we oan get, the Russians
are concentrating a large force
in the neighborhood of Kars
with a view to its capture while
the Turks are also gathering in
that vicinity so as to be able to
repel all attacks; Erzeroum does
not seem to be in any present
danger; the Montenegrins ar^
evidently doing some little fight-
ing but generally get defeated;
the Servians are ready to fight
and apparently only waiting
for a good opportunity to pitch
in; the Circassians have joined
the Turks, with the exception of
those in the Russian- sendee,
part of whom have been sent to
garrison Siberian posts, and
those who remained have reins
ed to fight against the Turks as
they are all brother Mahome
dans; some skirmishing seems
to be going on along the Asiatic
frontier; both parties are forti-
fying the banks of the Danube;
the czar is at the headquarters
of his army; the Sultafa is still in
Constantinople, and some re-
ports say lie will remain there,
as he is an arrant coward; the
Turlush monitors are active and
evidently of some account; no
Russian fleet has yet made its
appearance; Egypt has sent
some troops to the assistance of
Turkey; some little fighting is
going on but without any decid-
ed results, as yet; Russia seems
to go at it rather hesitatingly;
Turkey quietly assumes the de-
fensive; Qreece is a little unset-
tled; an insurrection is reported
on the isle of Crete; Italy does
not seem to be at alE interested
in the matter; Germany is watch-
ing France very closfely; France
is somewhat troubled internally
by what bids fair to be a Bona-
partist movement; Austria is
watching the belligerents, Spain
is trying to take care of herself
and Cuba and has her hands
-'full; England is watching and
making all she can out of both
sides while we are letting them
all go it as they please and mak-
ing ail we can out of every one
ot them. TJp to the present
time there have been fre
quentrumow of peace but the
.latest mm from Turkey -states,
that this subject is derided there
as altogether unworthy of no-
tice. Now you know as much
As we do about it and probably
agree with us fn being willing
to let them have it ont as soon as,
and in any way they please as
long as they let U. S. and ours
well alone.
