This report on Crime in Texas during 1998 was compiled from data submitted
to the Texas Department of Public Safety's Uniform Crime Reporting Section by
947 Texas Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police whose jurisdictions cover 997% of Texas'
population. This publication is the result of their cooperation.
Special appreciation is extended to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform
Crime Reports Section and to the members of the Crime Records Committees
of the Texas Police Association and the Sheriff's Association of Texas for assistance
provided to the Texas UCR Program.
