ADVICE ON HOW TO SUCCEED
Success doesn’t always
come from what you know.
Often it comes from how
effectively you can put your
own and others’ knowledge
and resources to work.
Since buying a radio sta-
tion in 1953, J. B. Fuqua has
acquired 40 companies,
building what is known to-
day as Fuqua Industries, Inc.,
a $2 billion
Atlanta-based
conglomerate
compose d
of energy,
transportation,
recreation,
Fuqua service and
farm businesses.
Interviewed in Adele
Scheele’s new book, “Skills
for Success,” . (New York:
William Morrow & Co.) J. B.
Fuqua offered advice to
young business managers
and executives who seek to
be more successful in their
ventures.
Six Specific Hints
1. Establish yourself fi-
nancially so that you can
“use other people’s money
to make your own.”
2. Concentrate on high
quality and high price —
that’s where the most profit
is. Terminate unprofitable
operations.
3. Hire intelligent people,
even if they are “smarter
than you.”
4. Motivate employees by
showing appreciation for
their work. Morale flows
from the top down.
5. Establish progressive
training so that each em-
ployee in a responsible posi-
tion has a successor — and a
place to move up to.
6. Get involved in politics
to better understand
government.

COMMON SENSE SHOULD BE THE GUIDE TO KEEPING COOL
Unless you’re one
of the fortunate ones
who are spending the
summer in the high
mountains, July is a
and will continue to
be, a hot month.
Some folks say: It's
not the heat, it's
the humidity. To some
extent, this is true.
But, humid or dry,
most of the United
States is hot in July
and August.
Okay, so it's hot.
What can be done abo-
ut it?
The first and most
obvious thing is—
get inside where it's
air conditioned. Th-
at's what most of us
do but lot's of peop-
le must survive the
hot summer without
air conditioning bec-
ause of outdoor work
or a non-air conditi-

There are some thin-
gs that can be done
to help combat the
heat.
The American Medical
Associations says:
Stay out of the sun
as much as possible,
especially during the
middle of the day wh-
en the rays are hott-
est. Wear light, loo-
se clothing, the less
the better. (Women
have the edge over
men in this area.)
Drink more liquids
than usual, but take
extra salt only on
the advice of a doct-
or.
Take a shower or dip
in the pool once or
twice a day to cool
off. Get plenty of
rest and sleep. Eat
a regular diet,,
Get up early in the
morning for heavy
work on the lawn or
garden. Or do it at
dusk. Try to avoid
heavy exertion during
the hottest hours of
the day.
The need for exerci-
se exists during the
summer as well as the
winter—but shouldn't
be over-done, especi-
ally on hot days.
The more relaxed

Stay relaxed and use

Women Can Get The
Credit They Deserve
Historically, women have
had a harder time obtaining
credit than have men. That
stemmed from the mistaken
belief that women were bad
credit risks. The facts
clearly refute this myth.
Over the years many women
have done an excellent job
of managing their finances
and credit.
t
In extending credit, Fed-
eral laws make it illegal to
discriminate based on sex or
marital status. Women can
obtain credit in their own
names. Single women can-
not lose their credit rating if
they marry and married
women cannot lose theirs if
they are widowed or
divorced.
Many financial advisors
recommend that women
establish their own inde-
pendent financial identities
in a credit history. While
many credit histories are
listed in the husband’s
name, a woman may request
that creditors consider any
account that accurately re-
flects her creditworthiness.
General Motors Ac-
ceptance Corporation
(GMAC), the consurrter
financing arm of General
Motors Corporation, has
helped women finance
vehicles since the company
was founded over 61 years
ago. GMAC is offering a free
booklet “Women Can Get
The Credit They Deserve.”
It’s available from GMAC,
