About Books
Conseco w speak
By Lindy Williams
Looking at the contents of
my column. I am reminded of
the words of St. Paul: “And
now abideth faith, hope and
charity, these three...”
NEW* BOOKS (Not recently
written, but recently ac-
quired):
THE CROSS AND THE
SWITCHBLADE by David
Wilkerson
You may remember this as
a movie with Pat Boone who
played the part of the country
minister whose quiet safe life
was shattered by a divine
notion that pops into his head
and won’t be dismissed. To
his own horror, he follows this
notion to New York City and
the beginning of some strange
adventures that culminate in
the building of a Teen
Challenge Center. With only a
cross as his weapon, Rev.
Wilkerson brings, one by one,
the toughest leaders of New
York street gangs to their
knees.
Poignant, powerful and
still pertinent today.
HIND’S FEET ON HIGH
PLACES by Hannah Humard
“Hind’s Feet on High
Places’’ is the story of
Much-Afraid, a dweller in the
Valley of Humiliation, and
how she rises to spiritual
heights in the service of the
Chief Shepherd.
Go with Much-Afraid on
her spiritual travels to the
High Places and don’t expect
to be back too soon.
Absolutely inspiring.

HOW TO PROSPER DUR-
ING THE COMING BAD
YEARS by Howard J. Ruff
This is a crash course in
Personal and Financial sur-
vival: “Basically.* I am
outlining a new way of
helping people become finan-
cially secure at a time when
institutions they have de-
pended on are clearly failing
them." says author Howard
Ruff.
THERE’S NO SUCH
PLACE AS FAR AWAY by
Richard Bach
I found this a particularly
hopeful and uplifting book,
but then I live nine thousand
miles from home. Those who
flew with Bachs’ JONATHAN
LIVINGSTON SEAGULL will
find thoughts here to share.
And for friendships that don’t
depend on time and space,
this is a lovely communica-
tion.
"...but the greatest of these
is charity."
We now have in the
Library, a barrel for Border
Relief (Remember the Border
Angel, Frank Ferree who
began Border Relief thirty
years ago, still goes to Mexico
three times a week.). Any old
clothes, especially children’s,
or food will be appreciated.
