cloths eased In price last week and 40-lncb
sheetings for the bag trade continue dull.
Otherwise there was little te Indicate
any easing in cotton goods. Many colored
goods Unas were sold ahead at full prices
and wide sheetings 'continue Tory firm.
Duck markets are exceedingly firm with
the demand good. Fine and fanoy goods
converters are making concessions to
move out the balance of their styled in
the fabrics and buyeri are ready to pur-
chase what la shown. The scarcity of
cotton blankets and some other lines of
napped cottons appears to be growing.
The- cool weather hae been much avalnst
retail distribution of sheer summer
fabrics.
Tarn markets rule firm. - Knit goods for
Spring have been opened and Jobbers are
making unusually 'good commitments at

NEW ORLEANS June 11 While the
cotton market stood at the advance
throughout last week no very Important
gaina were scored and the close waa at a
net rlae of 21 to 29 points. The highest
prices were reached en Thursday when
the trading months were 24 to Si points
above the previous week's close.
Bullish feeling waa stimulated by the
better feeling In the spot department
where It waa claimed that the recent wide
decline in ocean freight rates had stimu
lated the export demand. HMpmenta to
foreign ports last week from all United

same week last year.
Bearisn traders were encouraged oy tne
favorable weather over the belt and the
appearance of the first bale of the new

operations last week were desultory with
the results of the political conventions in
doubt when Saturday's session ended.
Cautious dealings were restricted to the
trading element High -grade rails ad-
vanced substantially but the motor group
and ita accessories were under the re-
straints Imposed by banking interests.
Further progress was' 'reported however
toward the completion of aeveral large
mergere in the Industry.
There waa a marked revival of specu-
lative interest In some of the low priced
railway shares. Southern and South'
western Issues shared to art unusual de-
gree In this movement. Coalers were the
outstanding features ot that division.
. United States Steel recovered much of
Its former prominence on the rise to 8 1-4
and the shares of Independent steel and
Iron companies were. Increasingly active
at Irregular . gain. Foreign exchange
markets were little changed.
A temporary advance In call money to
4 per cent was ascribed In part. to. an
extensive loan made by local bankers to

Tbere are about 40 vegetable oil mills
In actual operation at Marseille nearly all
ot which crush peanuts to some extent
The average output of the local peanut-
oil mills since the beginning of the cur
rent year has been about 75 per cent nor-
mal and it Is not likely to Increase in
the near future owing chiefly to this
year's crop shortage in India. The exist-
ing stocks of peanuts anS peanut oil are
low and there ia practically no available
supply for export. The local soap fac-
tories are very busy and a steady de-
mand for the soap grades of vegetable oils'
ia expected. No shipments of Industrial
peanut oil have been made to the United
Btatea this year.
Cocoanut or copra oil la next in Im
portance to peanut oil in this market. The
local ; imports or. copra oil during 1915
amounted during 1116 to 148080 metric

largest quantities. There is aa export
embargo on this product with exceptions
In favor of certain allies and neutral coun-
tries. A quantity of the soap grades has
been shipped recently to the United States
under tne -exemption - provision. The
stocks of these gradea on band are not

- Palm oil la not manufactured here hut
is Imported from the west coast of Africa.
