The President
This is the 49th season of the Abilene Philharmonic Association.
The theme of the season is "Masterworks in the Millennium." It takes
many elements to make up a civilization. Music is an integral part of
our civilization. Each epoch produces its great music. The collection of
such great music makes our musical heritage. Such a heritage enriches
our lives, touches the sensitive, latent, and creative instinct in every one
of us. If we ourselves could not produce and perform such music, we
are enlivened by hearing the creations of the great composers
throughout the ages, performed by gifted musicians on our stage now.
Preserving such a musical heritage is a precious and cherished
responsibility of the Abilene Philharmonic Association. We accept that
responsibility with joy.
This is also the season of new beginnings. We welcome our new Executive Director, Ms. Candi Delgatty,
who brings to our organization new visions, vital energy, and fresh enthusiasm.
A few years ago, the Abilene Reporter-News called the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra "the center-
piece of culture of the city." We hope we can always live up to that expectation.
It takes all of us to maintain this cultural centerpiece: the musicians, the patrons, the generous donors,
the board of governors, the board of trustees, the Guild, and the staff. It is often said that a precious gift
such as "Masterworks in the Millennium" can be extinguished by the neglect of one generation. Let this be
the generation that not only preserves this heritage but magnificently enhances it in this part of the world.
Welcome to this new season and may you enjoy every offering of the Abilene Philharmonic this
orchestral year.
Thomas K. Kim
President, The Board of Governors
Abilene Philharmonic Association
