Open for Business
After years of waiting, Crandall residents
finally have a new grocery store
By Greg Rhea
On Monday morning, May 24, 2010, David’s
Supermarket in Crandall opened its doors to the
public. The opening of this grocery store will
bring smiles to the faces of many Crandall resi-
dents as they now have a quality grocery store in
town.
Ever since the old City Market shut down,
Crandall residents have been longing for a gro-
cery store. Thanks to the City of Crandall Gov-
erning Body working together with the Crandall
Economic Development Corp., Crandall was able
to get David’s into town.
David's Supermarkets is an independently
owned and operated supermarket chain headquar-
tered in Grandview, Texas. David's has been serv-
ing Texas communities with quality products and
great service since 1964. David’s also takes great
pride in being well known for their quality meats
at competitive pricing and are one of the few retail
supermarkets that still offers carry out service to
all customers.
If you have not already done so, then I sug-
gest you stop in to David’s at 102 W. Gleason St.
in Crandall, and let then know that you are glad
they are in Crandall, and also check out all their
low prices.

Early Morning Crash Claims
One Life
635 was shut down early Tuesday morning in
Balch Springs after a fatal accident.
A couple, driving a Ford Thunderbird, pulled
over on the shoulder of the southbound side of 635
near Elam Road, Tuesday morning after having a
flat tire. The couple contacted their son who came
to change their tire. After successfully changing
the tire all family members returned to their ve-
hicles and proceeded to pull back onto the freeway.
Police Chief Ed Morris explained that the
couple and their son, in a Jeep in front of the cou-
ple, then pulled back onto the freeway in the path
of an 18-wheeler. The rig struck the Thunder-
bird which then knocked the Jeep out of the way.
The rig proceeded to climb over the Thunderbird
where it finally came to a stop. The female driver
of the Thunderbird died at the scene and both her
husband and son were hospitalized.
Chief Morris noted that the driver of the
18-wheer was not speeding at the time of the ac-
cident.
Suspect Receives Minor
Injuries During Escape
Attempt
Kaufman, Texas -Mr. Keith Bernard Offord,
age 21, of Crandall was arrested and charged with
burglary of a vehicle late Sunday night. Mr. Of-
ford was placed in custody without incident and
had begun transport to the Kaufman County Law
Enforcement Center. After advising the suspect
that he was indeed going to jail, Mr. Offord sud-
denly unlocked the door as well as his seat belt.
Despite the efforts of the arresting deputy, to stop
the vehicle and hang on to Mr. Offord in his at-
tempt to jump from the moving vehicle, Mr. Of-
ford jumped from the front seat of the K-9 unit, all
the while handcuffed onto highway 175, just north
of the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center.
Mr. Offord was transported to a Dallas hos-
pital for medical treatment, and is expected to be
release with only minor injuries. Mr. Offord will
be charged with not only burglary of a vehicle, but
with escape as well.
The charge of burglary of a vehicle is con-
sidered a Class A Misamenaor, and the escape
charge is a third degree felony and carries a fine
of up to $10,000.00 and two to ten years in prison.
Vandals Strike Crandall
High School
Last week, vandals left their mark on Cran-
dall High School with graffiti. Amy Barber, As-
sistant Principal at Crandall High School said
that the vandals left graffiti on the walkway right
outside the front entrance to the high school and
around the sides of the school. Crandall Police
came out and investigated the scene and then the
graffiti was removed.
If you have any information as to who was
responsible for this, you are encouraged to contact
the Crandall Police Department.
