five strong, reached Orange yesterday
morning at 11 o'clock from Lemon-
vflle for the purpose of holding un-
veiling ceremonies of the monument
to the late Asa Welach, a dec-sued
member of the lenton camp.

pany was ordered by Adjutant Gen-
eral Newton for the purpose of pro-
testing T. T. Tesselr, who was In the
county jail at that place on a charge
of shooting his wife, and on whom
Sheriff J. H. Booker feared a mob
would wreak Miinimary vengeance.

may well feel proud. Its members
are above the average In Intelligence
and military proficiency, and their
conduct while In Newton was all that
could have been desired.
'Captain Sholars and Lieutenant
Ford are well known and popular resi-

been Identified with the National
Guard movement; both are soldierly,
genial and polished gentlemen who
number mauy friends in Newton.'*
