the trip. Last chance to buy tickets will be from the parents of American S tudent Travel Club
members, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of Island State Bank, or at the door of the elementary

'Toasty roast' planned for
Citizen of Year ceremony
A “warm and toasty roast” is
planned for Port Aransas’ first Citi-
zen of the Year presentation which
will highlight the annual Chamber of
Commerce banquet Wednesday, Feb.
20.
A program devoted to honoring the
many volunteer efforts of the recipi-
ent of the community’s first Citizen
of the Year Award is being finalized,
Chamber president Mike Hall said.
Featured in the program will be Port
Aransas entertainer PaLsy Jones.
New officers will also be installed
during the banquet.
Tickets, at $15 per person, arc
available now by calling the Chamber
of Commerce at 749-5919 or 1-800-
242-COAST.
The banquet will be at Port Royal
Condominium beginning with a cash
bar at 6:30 p.m. and dinner and the
program to follow.
Chamber directors agreed last year
to begin honoring Port Aransas’ most
dedicated citizens by honoring a Citi-
zen of the Year during the annual
Chamber banquet. Nominations were
taken from the public, then a commit-
tee appointed by the president re-
viewed the nominations and made the
selection. Because of duplication, 13
people we^e nominated by 22 nomi-
nators. From 'ha. ~.t of i3, will come
Port Aransas’ first Citizen 01 .he Year.
The identity of the Citizen of the Year
This week in Port Aransas
will remain a secret until it isrevealed
during the banquet.
“This first award will be truly spe-
cial because we have so many deserv-
ing citizens. The committee had a
really difficult time choosing which
one to honor first,” Hall said.
The award is for a lifetime of dedi-
cated service above self to the com-
munity, not just for a single good
deed, and beyond the normal duties of
a person’s job, Hall pointed out.
“We invite the citizens of Port
Aransas to join the Chamber in recog-
nizing the spirit of community serv-
ice by attending the banquet and
honoring our first official Citizen of
the Year,” Hall said.
