Cancer Update ’95
Explores Cancer Treatment Issues
for Physicians, Nurses and other
Health Care Providers
“Cancer Update ’95,” a
one-day conference for physi-
cians, nurses and medical sup-
port staff exploring treatment
and other issues for patients
with cancer, will be presented
Saturday, February 18, at the
Wyndham Hotel in San Anto-
nio.
Sponsored by the Baptist
Memorial Hospital System, the
sixth annual conference will
cover topics like genetic test-
ing and some of its ramifica-
tions, including ethical issues;
pain management; end-of-life
issues; and a mini symposium
exploring new techniques and
concepts in the diagnosis and
treatment of breast cancer.
Highlights of the conference
will include A. O. Severance
Pathology Lecture on “Clini-
cal Significance of the Surgi-
cal Pathology of Breast Can-
cer” and a lecture by Dr. Rich-
ard Love, from the University
of Wisconsin, covering the
risks and benefits of hormone
replacement therapy or preg-
nancy after breast cancer.
The conference is designed
for physicians in family prac-
tice, internal medicine, pedi-
atrics, general practice, gen-
eral surgery, geriatrics, maxil-
lofacial surgery, clinical pa-
thology, diagnostic radiology,
nuclear radiology, otolaryn-
gology, medical oncology, ob-
stetrics and gynecology, ado-
lescent medicine, and plastic
surgery, as well as any other
speci alties involved in the care
of the cancer patient. Nurses,
nursing students, medical stu-
dents, and other health care
professionals are also encour-
aged to attend.
The Baptist Memorial Hos-
pital System designates this
continuing medical education
activity as meeting the criteria
for seven (7) credit hours in
Category 1 of the Physician’s
Recognition Award of the
American Medical Associa-
tion. This offering has been
approved for 7.8 contacthours
and meets Type I criteria for
mandatory continuing educa-
tion requirements toward re-
licensure as established by the
Board of Nurse Examiners for
the State of Texas.
