SAN ANTONIO
The people of San Antonio were the
recepient of an intellectual lecture by
Rabbi H Barnstein of Houston under
the auspices of the Council of Jewish
Women the subject being Love Stories
of the Bible Rabbi H Barnstein han-
dled his subject with thorough knowl-
edge of what he was saying and com-
bined with his clear delivery gave a
well received lecture Last Tues-
day February 15 at the meeting of
the J L C owing to the small attem
dance only the history contest was
participated in On Febraury 22 a
splendid musical program will be giv-
en The club has announced that it
will give no Purim ball this year ow-
ing to the fact that it might conflict
with another that is to be given by
one of the congregations H The
congregation Agudas Achem held a
meeting a few clays ago atwhich it
was determined that a Talmud Torali
would be instituted under the auspices
of the congregation but to be govern-
ed by a board qf trustees elected by
the subscribers to the Talmud Torah
The said Talmud Torah to be open to
the children ot both members and
nonmembers of the congregation Fur-
ther resolutions were passed to have a
committee appointed to open negotia-
tions tor a Rabbi for the congregation
but who would also conduct the Tal-
mud Torali The members of the con-
gregation are determined to secure a
competent Rabbi and are bending ev-
ery energy in that respect Other com-
mittees were appointed to thoroughly

canvass the city for subscriptions to-
ward the school At this writing every-
thing io reported to be progressing to-
ward the accomplishment of their en-
deavors v > Miss Sarah Sellinger was
hostess at a miscellaneous shower the
guest of honor being Miss Sarah
Reich The chief diversion of the
evening was a guessing contest bring-
ing in the brideelect motif in the
prizes and score cards Miss Helen
Peiper won first prize and Miss May
Calhoun the second In the dining
room a color scheme of pink and white
prevailed The centerpiece was crys-
tal candelabra holding pinkshaded ta-
pers surrounded with a miniture ter-
race of ferns and smilax The plate
favors were corsage bouquets of Ro-
man hyacinths tied with pink ribbons
A course luncheon was served Assist-
ing Miss Sellinger in dispensing the
hospitality were Mesdames H Sellin
