outside view Not a little of antiSem
itism Is occasionally and quite
thoughlessly spread by a Jewish edi-
tor who ostrichlike buries his head
in the sand The JewiBh editor who
never thinks of he nonJewish rend-
ers of his journal is grievously at
fault He sometimes does more harm
than good to the community
The value of a representative Jew-
ish journal to a community is incalcu-
lable and it is the duty of the leading
Jews in every center of Jewry to as-
sist in establishing a communal organ
on a solid foundation and continue to
support it adequately You must feed
well the bodyguards of ntlers of men
Well conducted Jewish journals are
the bodyguards of the Jews wherever
published throughout the Diaspora
See what the longheaded farseeing
first Lord Sway tilling did for the now
very piosperous Jewish Chronicle
when that journal was in its infancy
struggling for existence under the re-
gime of Abraham Bemish its founder
Samuel Montague afterwards Lord
Swaythling with his brotherinlaw
the late Mr Lionel Lewis Cohen and
Mr Lionel Van Oven came to the res-
cue of the struggling journal with
large amounts of cash Practically
Lord Swaythling was for several de-
cades of years part proprietor a-
sleep partner of the Jewish Chroni-
cle and when the property changed
hands some four years ago for 50
000 he parted with his interest on
most liberal terms
Lord Swaythling by the support he
gave the Jewish Chronicle has em-
phasized the fact that the Jew who
supports a synagogue is also in duty
bound to support the communal jour-
nal and by inference that the Jew
who only supports a temple or syna-
gogue and fails to support the com-
munal journal is only doing half his
duty to Judaism
Mr Jacob H Schiu iius subscribed
25000 toward the fund of 1000
000 which is being raised by the New
York Zoological Society to insure the
permanence of its Zoological Park and
the New York Aquarium
Budapest February 1 The Hungar-
ian Government has just honored an-
other Jew with the title of baron
Banker Joseph Herzog is now Baron
Joseph Herzog and his is a member
of the House of Magnates

Reverie like the rain of night ro
stores color and force to thoughts
which have been blanched and wearied
by the heat of the day With gentle
fertilizing power it awakens within us-
a thousand sleeping germs and as
though in play gathers around us ma-
terials for the future and images for
the use of talent Reverie is the Sun-
