Week. It Is the Centennial for
our public schools, 1854-1954.
Patrons are urged to visit their
school during this week, or at
any other time they choose. The
Coppell boys and girls entered
an Invitational tournament at
Irving this week end. The boys
played a nice game but lost to
the powerful team of Irving.
The girls made the way to the
consolation finals to lose to the
Duncanville ball club by three
points. This was one of the best
games of the tournament.
Thanks to our fans who pro-
vided transportation for the
boys and girls.
Eugene Hodges was baptized
at the Baptist Church Sunday

GIRLS WIN “Y” TOURNEY
The first elementary Colored
girls’ basketball tournament was
held Saturday, Feb. 6 at the
Moorland Branch YMCA gym
The tournament began at 9
a.m. with nine teams entered.
The tourney was a double affair
which meant that every team
had an opportunity to lose
twice before being eliminated.
The games were played In the
following manner: Garland 24,
Rice 4; Fannie C. Harris 29, Car-
rollton 26; Rice 21, Lancaster 20;
Carrollton 21, Grand Prairie 10;
Garland 6, Sowers 5; Carrollton
26, Grand Prairie 15; Garland
16, Fannie C. Harris 14; Sowers
21, Rice 10; Fannie C. Harris 15,
Sowers 11; Carrollton 13, Fannie
C. Harris 8.
The championship game was
played between Garland and
Carrollton. Carrollton won the
hard-fought game 22-19.
This was the first elementary
girls’ basketball tournament
that has been held In the city
and also the first time any Dal-
las school has participated.
Outstanding players in the
tourney were forwards Janetta
and Doris McLane of Carrollton:
Bessie Alexander of Garland,
and Mary Wright of Fannie C.
Harris school. Starring In the
guard position for the entire
tournament was Wanda How-
ard of Carrollton.

on February 19-20. The CYF

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, there
will be a World Mission and
Evangelism Assembly held at
the University Christian Church
In Fort Worth. Dr. Dale C. Fiers
of the United Christian Mis-
sionary Society In Indianapolis,
Ind., will be In charge of the
assembly.
Members of the functional
committees met in separate ses-
sions Sunday afternoon to for-
mulate plans for the coming
year, with particular emphasis
on work to be carried out dur-
ing the next month.
The Christian Women's Fel-
lowship met at the church on
Monday evening. Miss Ruth
Gardner, group leader, was In
charge of the business meeting
