County, died Sunday, March 8,
1981, at 6 a.m. in Colonial Oaks
Nursing Home in Cross Plains.
Funeral services were Monday,
March 9, at 2 p.m. in Stevens
Memorial Chapel, Rev. Bill
Reed of First United Methodist
Church of Cross Plains officia-
ting.
Mr. Cross was born August
22,1902 in Coleman County, the
son of James H. and Carrie
Colvin Cross. He attended
schools in Cross Plains and was
a Methodist. He was a retired
oilfield worker.

for Mrs. J. Lee (Rhoda) Mayes,
89, of Coleman were 3 p.m.

arrangements.
Mrs. Mayes died Saturday,
March 7, 1981, at 6 a.m. in
Overall-Morris Memorial Hos-
pital.
Born August 22,1891 in Bell
County, Mrs. Mayes attended
schools there. On Aug. 24,1913,
she married Jesse Lee Mayes in
Bell County, moving that year
to Coleman County, where Mr.
Mayes owned Mayes Drug. Mr.
Mayes died June 7,1964.
Survivors are a-foster son,
Mike Bruner, his wife Ann, and
their children Sherry and De-
bora, all of Smithville, Texas;

Salvation Army
Fund Drive Is
Starting Today
Headed by J. Lee Farmer the
annual local Salvation Army
fund drive is starting today,
following a coffee kickoff at 7
a.m. this morning at the Cole-
man Elank Club.
Farmer explains that the
money raised will be used to
help the less fortunate to help
themselves. Aid will be given in
the form of groceries, clothes,
shoes, rent, utilities, medical
aid or other expenses deemed
necessary.
A portion of the money will
also go to a number of approved
state agencies.
