WHY discharge a man who has given Bastrop County the largest, most extensive
rural electrification and rural water system in the United States? Whose help with
Bastrop County parks, recreation areas, educational problems, and business
development has made Bastrop one of the best communities in the United States?
•••
BASTROP COUNTY people are enjoying the benefits from these advantages, for
which we are indebted to Jake Pickle. Is this the time to turn our backs on him?
WiB your expression of gratitude be a black line through his name on the ballot
Tuesday? THINK-hefore you draw that black line!
•••
After nearly 40 years'of association with the people of Bastrop, JAKE PICKLE
has an ntamate knowledge of the town and the county-its people, its businesses,
its farms and ranches, its problems, its needs. When Bastrop people have problems,
they call Jake Pickle—he always listens and always helps.
•••
Easily accessible, he can always be reached—by telephone or by mail—and no
matter who you are or whether your problem is civic, business or personal, you
always get an answer.
•••
JAKE PICKLE doesn’t come to Bastrop only at election tine! He is a frequent
and welcome visitor hi Bastrop and Bastrop County. He comes because he loves the
people, and because he feels at home in the communities he knows so well. He
wales the streets throughout the county, visiting in and out of stores and offices
and cals more than half of the population by their first names. Bastrop County
people are accustomed to that. It would be kind of hard to have to introduce
yourself to your Congressman whenever you saw hhn. And to remember that he
doesn’t realy know who you are and what you do, and really doesn’t care! It’s nice
to have a Congressman who does know and who does care!
•••
JAKE PICKLE is more than generous with his tine. His driving energy takes
him to various points in the district to speak at a banquet or at a Commencement,
or to attend meetings of civic chibs or special groups where his services may be in
demand, or where he simply makes himself available to answer questions, to
discuss current matters, or simply visit with his constituents. He is quick to respond
to an emergency or to make himself available in time of need. He is a Christian
gentleman and an active church member.
•••
Many Bastrop people knew JAKE PICKLE for years before he even thought
about running for Congress, and know him to be clean, honest, dedicated and hard
working. He has grown with our community and our people.
