AMANDA LEIJA | BROWNWOOD BULLETIN
Members of the Duck Creek Cattle Company took the top spot in the
first Hooligan Hoggers’ Hog Dog Hunt with their top five hogs weighing

Two months ago, Wayne Clark
decided it was time for West Texas
to have a hog hunting competition.
“They have them all around East
and South Texas, but nothing here,”
said Wayne Clarke, member of Hoo-
ligan Hoggers. “If those South Texas
boys can have them, why don’t we
have them here?”
Eleven teams from across the
state participated in the Hooligan
Hoggers’ Hog Dog Hunt this past
weekend.
Members of the Duck Creek Cattle
Company won the first place plaque
with their top five hogs weighing in
at 838.6 pounds. The team from Ter-
rell — consisting of Wynne Breeden,
Trey Davis, Brian Helm, Ricky Grag-
sone and Wyatt Walton — won $900
and four winners buckles.
Second place and $600 went to
the members of Rough Country
from Brady, with their top five hogs
weighing in at 695 pounds. Third
place, $300 and a skull mount with
hydrodip went to the members of
Reaper Crew with their top three
hogs weighing in at 575 pounds.
Other awards included Reaper
Crew for biggest boar (280.4
pounds), Duck Creek Cattle Compa-
ny for biggest sow (191) and longest
tusks (3.5 inches) and Sneaky Creek
Boar Collectors for most head — 13
hogs over 80 pounds.
Other teams participating in he
competition were PPP from Cisco,
Young Guns from Gorman, Full
Throttle Hog Doggers from Rising
Star, Bayed Up from San Saba, Rough
Country Kennel from Hamilton and
Heart of Texas Hoggers from May.
Along with cash prizes, Hooligan
Hoggers held a drawing for a Yeti 50
cooler donated by Wesley Fletcher
and Lee Hoffpauir Chevrolet Buick in
Goldthwaite for each of the mem-
bers of the teams.
“They are always ready to help
us out with a cooler any time we do
anything," Clark said. “We appreciate
their generosity.”
Kirby Spinks from Sneaky Creek
Boar Collectors won the drawing for
the cooler.
With the success of this year’s
event, Clark is already making plans
for next year’s hunt.
“We’re going to make this event
an annual competition,” Clark said.
“We’re hoping to have 21 teams next
year.”
The next event Hooligan Hoggers
will be hosting is a four-band concert
on May 25 at the Melody Oaks Ranch
in Priddy. Bands set to perform
will be Spur 490, Kevin Seale, Phil
Hamilton and the Rich O’Toole Band.
All proceeds raised from the concert
will be split between the Cade Per-
kins and Cade Boyle families.

ligan Hoggers, visit their Facebook
fan page.

DERRICK STUCKLY | BROWNWOOD BULLETIN
Due to weekend rain in Mineral Wells, Monday’s base-
ball game between Cojo Guidry (2) and the Brownwood

winners of three straight, will host Venus in a 2 p.m.
Thursday doubleheader.
Lady lions look to
regroup vs. Snyder
BY DERRICK STUCKLY
BROWNWOOD BULLETIN
derrick.stuckly@brownwoodbulletin.com
Coming off a 2-3 per-
formance at the Mineral
Wells softball tournament
this past weekend, the
Brownwood Lady Lions will
attempt to regain positive
momentum in their final
outing before the start of
District 8-3A softball com-
petition.
The Lady Lions (6-7-1) will
play host to former district
rival Snyder at 3 p.m. in
Brownwood’s pre-district
finale.
Through 14 games, the
Lady Lions have experienced
their share of up and downs
as consistency has lacked
throughout the season.
However, Brownwood
owns a six-game win streak
over Snyder dating to 2010
and the Lady Lions will be
carrying a 26-game district
win streak into 8-3A action,
where head coach Amanda
Sheffield’s squad will target
a fourth consecutive district
title.
The Lady Lions will visit
Burnet at 7 p.m. Friday in
the 8-3A opener.
DISTRICT 6-2A ATHLETICS
Bangs, Early baseball and softball
look to remain perfect in district
BY DERRICK STUCKLY
BROWNWOOD BULLETIN
derrick.stuckly@brownwoodbulletin.com
The Early and Bangs
baseball and softball teams
are all undefeated in district
action, but that won’t be the
case by the end of day.
The Lady Horns — with
district wins over Brady and
Grape Creek — host the
Lady Dragons — with league
wins over Grape Creek and
Coleman — at noon today.
Meanwhile, the Dragons
— with a 7-0 win over Cole-
man — will challenge the
Longhorns — with a 22-6
triumph over Grape Creek
— in just the second district
encounter for both teams.
The baseball game is
slated to begin at 7 p.m. in
Early.
