We veterans thank you for
your recognition and support. We
will forever be grateful for your
kind consideration and support.
We would also like to thank Tim
Delaney and the Refugio County
Press for thier coverage of veter-
ans’ events throughout the county.
It was nice to hear that we are
not only known as veterans but
we are also known as Defenders
of this Great Nation. Chamber
of Commerce personnel were very
happy to see a good turnout from
the veterans as well as the busi-
ness district.
In other veterans news, the
Marine Corps League Detachment
1167 would like to announce that
Robert Cisneros, of Woodsboro,
was the winner of the 50/50 MCL
Raffle held on Saturday, Nov. 9,
at the VFW Hall. Cisneros won
$371 which he turned around and
donated back to the Marine Corps
The Marine Corps
League would like to
thank everyone who
bought a raffle ticket,
and a special thank you
to Cisneros for his gen-
erosity of donating the
prize money back to the
Marine Corps League.
The Marine Corps
League’s next regular
monthly meeting will be at 7 p.m.
on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the VFW
Hall.

Attempted suicide
A female subject was
taken to Refugio Memorial
Hospital following a 911
call at 4:22 a.m. on Nov.
9. According to the report,
the female subject threat-
ened to kill herself by cut-
ting her wrist. The female
left on foot and was hid-
ing in a pasture.
Medics and officers
responded to the call on
Old Beeville Road.
Medic call
An 18-year-old female
was taken to Refugio
Memorial Hospital at 5:20
p.m. on Nov. 9, following
a 911 call reporting a pos-
sible overdose.
According to the report,
the female was vomiting
after she smoked “K2.”
Property damage
A Refugio woman
reported her brother may
have possibly trashed her
property at 4:04 p.m. on
Nov. 9. According to the
report, several windows
were broken.
Disturbance
A male and female sus-
pect were taken to the
Refugio County Jail at
10:13 p.m. on Nov. 10, fol-
lowing a 911 call reporting
the male suspect punched
the female’s vehicle door,
and she could not get
in the vehicle to leave,
according to the report.
Physical disturbance
A male suspect was
taken to Refugio County
Jail at 9:31 p.m. on Nov.
10, following a report of
a physical disturbance
on Commerce Street in
Refugio. According to the
report, the male subject
was drunk and was trying
to hit a male and female
subject. The male was
wanted out of Jefferson
County for a DWI bond
forfeiture.
Burglary
Deputy Stacey Allen
was dispatched to Twin
Oaks Road to investigate
a report of a burglary at
10:09 a.m. on Nov. 10.
According to the report, a
phone and an Ipad were
stolen.
Assault
Officers responded to a
911 call reporting a fight
at The Place at 12:27 a.m.
Nov. 10. According to
the report, the fight was
outside. A second caller
reported his son was hit
with a liquor bottle and
a pool stick in the face by
a female suspect at 12:34

Jose Rodriguez, Jr.
Aug. 24, 1936-
Aug. 10,2006
He was born and raised
in Refugio. He was a Catholic.
His youth was a happy one
surrounded by love. He was
an alter boy at St. James
Catholic Church, a cub scout
and a boy scout.
He excelled in his
academic studies and his
m

extracurricular activities. Jose loved life. For the Mighty Bobcats
he ran track and played football making a key interception in
his senior year and helped carry the team to state in 1955. He
then joined the Air Force and proudly served his country for
23 years. He was a Russian linguist who also spoke German,
Spanish, some Japanese and French. He served in high level
capacities of Security Service having "crypto clearance" and
belonged to an elite group called the "Silent Warriors". That
group of men formed tight bonds and they kept in touch for
life. After his retirement he moved to Aron Park, Florida with his
wife and two sons. He worked for the Fla. prison system. After
a few years he made his home in Tampa, Fla. Where he worked
at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department. While there
he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was an interpreter for
the courts. During that time he met his current wife and they
stayed busy raising their daughter. Following his retirement,
his family moved to Refugio and built their new home next
door to his beloved Mother. Still loving and missing him are
his beloved Mother, Kate Canchola Gilbert and his loving wife,
Genie Rodriguez both of Refugio, his son Ricky and wifeTrina of
Key West, Fla, his son Joey and wife Amber of Robstown, and his
daughter, Mimi Jenkins of Refugio, three grandsons, Kadin and

Feast for
Humanity
The Town of Refugio will
conduct its annual Feast
for Humanity, Saturday,
Nov. 23. To qualify for a
meal, residents of Refugio
must be 65 years old or
older, retired, handi-
capped, bedridden, or
home bound.
Meals are delivery only,
no dine in or carry out
plates. To request a plate
for delivery contact City

Fair Association
Meeting
Refugio County Fair
Association will hold its
monthly meeting at 7
p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at
Padilla Hall. There will
not be a December meet-

A male suspect was

County Jail for driving
while intoxicated at 1:21
p.m. Nov. 8. According
to the report, the suspect
drove into a ditch on Kelly
Road on U.S. Highway 77.
