broadcast, two receptions, a dinner
and an invitational high school
Americanism seminar are sched-
uled for the eighth annual Democ-
racy-in-Action Week, April 1-6, ac-
cording to Mrs. Dorothy Jean
Schroeder, DIA chairman.
The speakers are State Repre-
sentative Ben Barnes of DeLeon,
who will speak at 10 a.m. Monday
of DIA Week; radio and newspaper
news analyst Paul Harvey, 7:30
p.m. Monday; Bill Moyers, deputy
director of the Peace Corps, 10 a.m.
and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; Princess
Catherine Caradla of Romania, re-
fugee from behind the Iron Curtain,
10 a.m. Wednesday.
Also, Dr. Robert Morris, president
and counsel for the Defenders of
American Liberties and former
president of the University of Dal-
las, 10 a.m. Thursday; Dr. HerschelHobbs of Oklahoma City, Okla.,
president of the Southern Baptist
Convention, 7:30 p.m. Thursday;
Dr. W. D. McCain, president of the
University of Southern Mississippi,
10 a.m. Friday, and U. S. Senator
John Tower, 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The address by Harvey Monday
night will be broadcast as one of
his noted ABC news programs.
There will be an admission charge
for this program only during the
week. Advance reservations at $1,
$1.25 and $1.50 are being taken
by E. N. Elsey, director of public
services at the college.
Howard Payne will award an
honorary doctor of laws degree to
Senator Tower following his Friday
address, which will be the feature
of the closing convocation of DIA
Week. Brown County Republicans
are planning a reception in his
honor the same day.Students of 44 high schools in
Brown and surrounding counties
have been invited to be guests of
the college for a reception honoring
Moyers after his evening address.
Baptist ministers of Brown Coun-
ty and resident ministers of other
Baptist churches in District 16 have
been invited to be guests of the
college and meet Dr. Hobbs at a
dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in
Veda Hodge Hall, preceding his
DIA address.
One of Howard Payne's twice-a-
y e a r invitational Democracy-in-
Action seminars for outstanding
Texas high school students will
open with Sen. Tower's address
Friday night and continue with ses-
sions Saturday.
No DIA program is planned
Wednesday night to avoid conflict
with regular church meetings on
