Ramon Salazar placed 10th
in the state powerlifting con-
test in Abilene March 24.
He had a personal best in all
three lifts. He was the recipi-
ent of the Region 6, Division
3 scholarship in the amount
of $1,000.
In the April 3 issue, the Re-
lay for Life raised $64,022
for cancer.
Rod Heltzel filed a lawsuit
against Jacksboro Economic
Development Corporation
for damage to his property
on North Main next to Main
Street Bistro.
The Mirabeau B. Lamar
Award for Excellence was
awarded to Destiny Stephens
at Perrin and Renee Francis,
a teacher at Perrin.
The Jacksboro FBLA team
competed in the state leader-
ship conference in Houston.
In the April 6 issue, a pug
went home after 5 years,
called an April Fool miracle.
Chelsea Smith of Jacks-
boro found the pug on Live
Oak Street and took it to the
Jacksboro Animal Shelter
where Star Kinder scanned
the microchip and found Dal-
las owners. They were reunit-
ed at 10 p.m. that night.
Rod Heltzel addressed the
JEDC at a meeting regard-
ing his lawsuit. The attorneys
made statements about the
Track students, Luke Ved-
der and Kaitlyn Kennedy
competed in the Tiger Relays
that week.
Bryson welcomed their One
Act Play students with sirens
as they returned from Gaines-
ville with a district win, ad-
vancing to area competition.
They performed A.R. Gur-
ney’s “Sylvia.”
Holy Week was celebrated
at the First United Method-
ist Church with different
churches hosting lunch each
day of the week.
Relay faces were featured
in color on the back page. It
was a fun weekend at the Re-
lay for Life.
Easter egg hunts were host-
ed by the city at Twin Lakes,
the fort at Fort Richardson
State Park, and the girls
scouts at Twin Lakes.
A July 4th celebration was
being planned to replace the
Summerfest.

going over the guard rail of
a deep ditch and hanging in
the trees. The driver was un-

Perrin was featured with
pictures of their prom in Mar-
di gras style.
In the April 13 issue, the
Carson and Barnes Circus
came to Jacksboro.
The Jack County Posse was
beginning to round up a ro-
deo queen.
The commissioners heard
from the Concerned Citizens
director, Russonna Jones-
Briscoe about their budget.
The firemen were hosting a
rabies clinic, the seniors were
hosting a golf tournament for
Senior Celebration and the
Lions Club was hosting their
annual broom and mop sale.

The Jacksboro Elemen-
tary School was presenting
their Spring program “Ocean
Friends.”
Kaleb Schumann was se-
lected to be the Interlochen
Summer Arts camp director
for high school boys.
Two rollovers occurred on
Highway 281 South, one
Thursday that resulted in three
serious injuries at noon and
one Saturday which resulted
in a fatality at midnight at the
intersection of Highways 199
and 281 South. DPS Trooper
Terry Lockridge said both
accidents could have been
avoided.
Fort Richardson State Park
hosted Living History Days.
Another wreck north of
Bryson involved a teen driv-
er on her way to school. She
was careflighted to John Pe-
tersmith Hospital but was
later released.
A missing woman near the
Antelope area was found

Higher Education
Midwestern State University recognized 886 honor students
for the Fall 2012 semester. A student who completes a semes-
ter schedule of at least 12 semester hours in one semester with
a grade point average of 3.75 to 3.99 will be included on the
Provost’s Honor Roll. Travis Osteen of Jacksboro made the
Provost Honor Roll.
